Bob, that GIF is actually from the 42-13 blowout of the 49ers from late last season...but it definitely still applies after yesterday's game.

I just saw it on Deadspin and thought it was kind of funny. I personally don't hate the Seahawks, although Carroll definitely does rub me the wrong way.

Lol, I used to be the same way - I think he strikes people as fake as he's constantly too upbeat - but from what I understand from those who have met and worked with him...that's just how he is. He does a lot in the community here and still has a foundation that he runs in LA, despite being here for over 3 years now.

After getting to "know" him over the past 3 years as Seattle's coach and seeing all charity and community outreach work he does, I don't get the hate.

He had zero control over the benefits that Reggie Bush's family chose to take while at SC--not sure what he was supposed to do to stop it.

I can see some disdain for the timing of his leaving for the NFL at the time the Bush scandal was coming down but what do you expect a top college coach to do when offered a head coaching job in the NFL? I don't think many other coaches would've stuck around either as those opportunities don't come around all that often.

I expect the haters are still going to hate but he's actually a pretty good guy.

This would be true were it the only thing that Carroll and USC got in trouble for. It's pretty clear that Pete used his connections to get players jobs and establish connections with agents and "marketers" as well as some other minor infractions. Minor or not, his malfeasance in following the rules caused USC to get curb stomped by the NCAA.

my distaste for carroll has absolutely zero to do with whether or not he ran a dirty program at usc, i simply find his personality grating.

If you're going to hold him to that standard then, sadly, you're going to have to call out a significant number of head coaches at the major programs.

Hell. The most successful coach from my alma mater turned a blind eye from far worse infractions at the UW and quietly retired when the shit hit the fan. Yet he is still revered. There are many worse stories than Pete Carroll's at USC. Maybe he just irritates you. And that's fine. Not to justify it, but I don't think he was any worse than many of his cohorts.

I actually like Pete Carroll and have said as much many times. I just think (in typical Seahawks fan fashion) you are trying to pave over the guy's past.

Sorry, it's part of his legacy, just like his propensity to have a disproportionate number of players on the Seahawks with Attention Deficit Disorder.

I missed the parts where you stated you liked PC--my bad. I'm in no way paving over his past. I fully admit he had his indiscretions at SC---I wasn't as aware of the additional ones you alluded to above but the Bush fiasco was the big one. My point is that many head coaches at major programs have similar indiscretions, not just Pete. I think it's inevitable.

Hi, Bob.

Here's what I wrote about last night's game on my blog...

http://bobhasablog.com/2013/12/10/my-quick-thoughts-on-cowboys-at-bears-2013/

Quote:
Tony Romo threw three touchdown passes with no interceptions, DeMarco Murray ran for 146 yards while averaging 8.1 yards per carry, and the Cowboys did not turn the ball over once…so they must have won easily, right? Not even close.

There’s so much blame to go around that this game recap should probably be written by Tolstoy, instead of yours truly. But while no Dallas unit or player was without fault, the defense clearly deserves the most scrutiny. For the second time this season, the Cowboys played an entire game without forcing their opponent to punt (Denver being the other, not to mention New Orleans, who only punted once). They also failed to generate a single Chicago turnover. The pass rush was virtually nonexistent, multiple interceptions were dropped, and there were also several inexcusable drive-extending penalties.

So, what’s the root cause of the Cowboys’ defensive failings? Is it the scheme, or their personnel? At this point, you have to say both, as Kiffin doesn’t appear to have any answers, while the players are not getting it done. But regardless of whether it’s the scheme, the personnel, or both, it was all put into place by the master architect: the General Manager. He’s the one who proudly and defiantly owns that title, so he’s the one who has to be responsible for the results. Normally, a GM would be held accountable for his results, but when he’s his own boss, that simply isn’t going to happen.

There are several players on defense, like George Selvie and Nick Hayden, who can’t really be criticized too severely, because they are really only playing due to a lack of roster depth exposed by key injuries/departures. The ones who really should come under scrutiny are those who are failing to perform up to expectations. Brandon Carr has not been playing anywhere near a level commensurate with his contract. DeMarcus Ware is looking more and more like a shell of his former self. Sean Lee is fantastic when healthy, but he can’t seem to stay on the field often enough to make a sustained impact. Orlando Scandrick has been very up and down this season, but was especially down against the Bears. The bottom line is the guys who have shown they are capable simply have to start playing better.

Many will point to Alshon Jeffery’s spectacular touchdown catch with 17 seconds left in the first half – which put the Bears up 24-14 – as the backbreaker, but the real turning point happened on the Cowboys’ previous possession, when Jason Witten dropped a key pass less than one minute of game time earlier. It wouldn’t have given the Cowboys a first down, but it would have given them 2nd and short while running clock (Chicago was already out of timeouts). Instead, Dallas ends up going three-and-out, leaving the Bears enough time to start nailing the coffin shut.

Witten and Dez Bryant each caught a touchdown pass, but did almost nothing else. Dez added one other catch, but the two only combined for three catches and 22 yards on the night. They simply have to be more productive, and the coaches absolutely must figure out a more effective way to incorporate these vital weapons into the offensive gameplan.

That was officially the second-coldest game in the history of the Dallas Cowboys franchise (only the legendary “Ice Bowl” was more frigid), and it will take a long, long time for the hopes of Cowboy fans to start thawing. The bottom line is that every single person associated with this franchise – be it front office, coaching staff, or player – has to share in the blame for this abomination. No one is above reproach right now. It’s an epic and colossal failure in every way imaginable. Attempting to single out any one component – such as scheme or roster depth – is foolish. It’s ALL bad, and may not get better anytime soon.

Next week, the very same franchise Dallas faced in their coldest-ever game – Green Bay – comes to town. And regardless of whether or not the Packers have Aaron Rodgers back under center, the Cowboys won’t have a chance at winning if they play like they did against the Bears. Although the Cowboys still technically control their own “destiny,” one more loss could very well prove to be fatal, given how well the Philadelphia Eagles are rolling right now. ”Must-win” is a massive understatement.

Why would that team even WANT to make the playoffs? They should lobby to take Carolina's spot in the Belk Bowl.

Yeah, making the playoffs at this point would be an extremely gory death sentence.

As the NFL goes every season, there are transition points and oddball weeks.
Today I got to attend the Eagles-Vikings game. I just wanted to see a cheap game in the Metrodome before they knock it down.
It a fun fucking game to attend; and I got to dig my nails deep into those asshole traveling Philly fans.

And then I got home to witness that shitshow Packers-Cowboys game.
An entertaining and surprising week of football.

1. Pete Carroll is a jive-ass crook who ran a dirty, dirty program at SUC. The Bush stuff is the superficial and most publicized detail of an era of complete corruption. Maybe all college players should just get paid... like SC

2. Dallas... Romo... jeez Bob....

Like I told someone last night, I'd rather be 0-16 than 8-8. No hope is better than false hope. The fanbase is at an all-time fever pitch in terms of rage. Let's just say that today wouldn't be an ideal time for Jerry Jones to cruise through downtown Dallas in a convertible...if ya know what I mean.

Says the UCLA honk.

Ive done some reading on the accusations and sanctions since Bloor mentioned them above and while there certainly were innappropriate internships arranged by the coaching staff and some violations of the amateurism policy, including the Reggie Bush indiscretions, "complete corruption" is hyperbole and likely stems from your hatred of "SUC".

The Falcons did not get this memo as well. The Skins/Falcs game set back football 50 years. Skins had SEVEN turnovers and were only a 2 point conversion away from winning the game.

Falcons can't even lose right. Had they won the game they would've pretty much wrapped up at least the #2 pick. As it is, they'll now probably pick in the 5-7 no man's land range.

This can no longer be attributed to injuries. This team is now in 100% rebuild mode. Pathetic.

Good thing we're breaking ground on a BILLION dollar stadium next year.

I've noticed that there is a cottage industry of articles explaining with stats why Tony Romo is not a huge choke artists.
