I enjoy reading FnB's stuff... anyone who gives that much time to music has to be respected.

FNB sent me a message on Soulseek a few weeks ago that said 'ooooooooooooh...22,000 files'. I think I banned him after that message. I don't miss him.

I've slowed down a lot myself this year...but there are some upcoming disks (Springsteen, Hold Steady, etc.) that I know I'm gonna like...

sa'll good, i still check his site from time to time.

I admire his restraint. I don't get much out of this board anymore either but I seem to be tougher for Loogar to drive away.

np: Artful Dodger "Honor Among Thieves" - this is better than I remembered. Thanks Radcliffe.

I liked him fine but he really thought his opinion was fact. And the fact that he said the Chronic wasn't very good is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Because obviously it is a fact that the Chronic is one of the best rap albums of all time.

I hear ya. The main reason I stopped using soulseek a couple of years ago and don't really bother with Colinswood or other alternatives is it would be a trap for me. Having to actually buy a rekkid is a good check against my tendencies to want to hear everything.

I have a goal to do some major trading in of stuff I don't really listen to over the next few years and try to keep the overall size of my collection constant.

np: Skank "Radiola"

I will never understand this statement. This site you can actually post pics and have avatars and all that stuff. I guess we miss some passersby, but what is so much "suckier" aside from maybe the current crop of posters (like me) who suck?

I still use slsk but very limited. If i can't find something I use it or check out something to buy. And, keeping the collection at a constant is tough but I try, lord I try.

I do miss FnB's quickie reviews and genre mappings for sure. He got me to look for some fantastic Dub stuff, I now proudly own and listen to frequently.

I believe billyg, I owe a thanks to you for brazilian tastes.

Poke your head around the old board, kick some of the empty boxes and admire the echo. We ain't missing out on passersby, we're missing out on a fuckton of street teamers.

I like to complain, but damn. How people always bring up missing out on new people, but never mention the non-existence of street team posts here? Plus, the stream may be slow, but we've had some new folks saddle up on the ol' Obner to take the ride.

This is still a new thing, and I appreciate and admire the work done not only by Aaron for getting it up, running and reliable; Bob, Darrin and Tania for taking out the trash and doing the dishes once every few months; but the rest of us who make this a pretty damn decent place to bullshit about music, movies, books, politics or other assorted novelties without bothering the neighbors too often.

Some will come, some will go. Big deal.

There was a time at CMJ when street teamers weren't around much and a lot of good shit was getting passed around. The technical and humor upgrades at these boards make it superior though.

always found that dude to be a closed-minded antagonistic pompous blowhard, but then i'm probably just not very nice.

i like this board a lot, wish i had more time to visit it.

i've been confused over the past many months and could've used your collective counsel. cuz like, i think the arcade fire and bloc party discs are pretty good, but my ass remains unlit on fire. i just don't get it. perhaps i need to spend some real quality time alone with these well-loved indie-hyped rekkids. or maybe all this christian rock they're making me listen to has actually rotted my ears and brains. who's to tell?

and how are yous?

I guess alot of people didn't like him because not only did he have his own uncompromisng opinions but he was also knew more about music and was more articulate than the vast majority of posters on this board.

Moral of the story: We only tolerate people when they disagree with us if we think we are cleverer than them

Perhaps for some, Darrin, but after spending an hour with him in person I had no idea who he was outside of music. My first impression of him was a walking music encyclopedia: lots of knowledge, no emotional depth. Maybe that's not a very fair judgment, but he hasn't done much in three years to shake it.

I tolerate anyone isn't needlessly contemptous of other people's opinions, feeling the persons are beneath them intellectually and in overall worthwhileness. Contempt is for people who are assholes or who are stupid but think everyone else is.

Didn't really get that vibe from Bulby. I do chuckle at EVERYONE who believes there's an objective and infallible system of deciding whether music is good or not, and at those who can't understand why someone would like music that is "indisputably shit." Cuz it's all up for dispute. Fast did this sometimes, but nowhere near as much as some other folks and he always had reasons for his dislike that were more than just "this has been done before" or "all music in this genre is shit." He knew enough not to go that way most of the time.

Smart dude, a bit too rigid in some of his statements. Much more interesting than most reviewers.
