Tonight I listened to Bachelor No. 2 then flipped over to Car Wheels On A Gravel Road.

I enjoy both of these albums a great deal, as I'm pretty sure most of you do as well. If you had to take one and leave the other, which would you rather be stuck with? Aimee Mann or Lucinda Williams?

Damn. Round about the turn of the century, I would have gone with Mann. Nowadays, Lucinda. Thank God we don't have to choose.

I think Car Wheels may be my most played YTD album.

I can't vote on this. One makes me want to take a drive through small towns and country roads or highways; the other makes me want to sit on a porch with a glass of wine in a summer gardenia lilted air.

I could do either at any given moment.

Aimee's I'm With Stupid and Lucinda's Lucinda Williams are two of my favorite albums from the '90s, but I'd say that Lucinda has the better overall discography.

For a while I thought Lucinda was riding on the talents of Gurf Morlix, but she survived his departure after Car Wheels without too much of a hitch. Aimee, on the other hand, needs Jon Brion to sound even remotely interesting.

I deeply respect Williams and would probably rate several of her albums a bit higher than Mann's, but I actually listen to Mann much more often.

I think that's what tips the boat for me. I love the grit. The rough edges and the drawl. I like me some Aimee Mann, but Lucinda brings a little something extra to the table.

Odd that I put a song off that on the mix I sent you...

We both obviously have good taste. :)
