The real question is, who replaces him?

He could be his own Paul Schaeffer.

isn't he already a band leader on another talk show already?

Yes. He leads the band on Seth Meyer's new late night show.

I guess the front runner is Stephen Colbert but I don't really know if he'd work in that situation.

of course there are the obvious high cost choices (colbert, stewart, chris rock, seinfeld, chelsea handler) But I think it would be better if they got someone a little less famous...Patton Oswalt/Paul F. Tompkins...However, I think it would be smarter to use someone like Chris Hardwick...he's funny and interviews people well...

I'm a little surprised Colbert is the front runner as well (although word is he would drop the Bill O'Reilly act).

I was thinking they would go with Neil Patrick Harris because Doogie Howser.

Also, how about Jay Mohr? He's a terrible interviewer but he's hacky and corporate enough for middle America and a hard worker to boot.

Figure it's most likely either Colbert or Conan, with Turd Ferguson leaving the network in a snit for being passed over, and Handler taking his slot.

Looks like it's Colbert.

Just signed a 5 year deal.

Kinda surprised really. He's smart and funny but his audience is a bit different than Letterman's at this point.

He'll have to change his act but so did Letterman, Conan, Kimmel etc when they moved to new jobs.

And by that, I mean he'll be a less adventurous bore, humping whatever schlock Hollywood is promoting on a given night.

This whole process just makes me feel old. Shouldn't the nominees be a comedian I don't care about/haven't heard of?

On a side note, I'd love to see the actual Turd Fergusen in the role.
