RIYL?

Kind of a post-punk smorgasbord

but maybe: Parquet Courts, Women, The Feelies, The Method Actors (was just listening to them the other day so they came to mind), a little David Byrne

Their sound is a little on the brighter side, but it gets somewhat intense and noisy in parts.

Honestly haven't listened to the whole album yet, but it's been kind of in the queue for a while now. Definitely like what I've heard.

Really excited for the new Luke Haines!
He seems to be getting into the whole concept album thing.

I'm not a huge fan of the concept record format but this is at least much more interesting in theme than his last two. I'm a sucker though and will buy anything he releases. I've heard a few samples and they sound somewhat promising.

I think I saw you post something about being interested in the Damon Albarn album. If you haven't picked that up yet, do it. It's really good and pretty easily my 2nd favorite album of the year at this point. It reminds a little of the Good, the Bad & the Queen album in that it has a very layered sound that keeps revealing itself over many listens. It also has the same sort of comforting feel that album did. I don't like it quite as much as that album (at least not yet but I really loved that one). It is my 2nd favorite thing he's ever done though and yes that means I like it more than any Blur album although I don't expect many (any) people to share that sentiment.

Agreed about the concept thing. But, like you, I love Luke Haines.
And I have every intention of picking up the Albarn thing. Really looking forward to it.
2014 is proving to be a sneakily good year for new releases -- a lot of things coming out from artists that I hadn't heard or heard of before, that are probably going to be among my year-end top 10.

Agreed, its the best thing they've done in a while. I'm also positive I'm going to tire of it, but for now, loving.

Sounds like a soundtrack to a David Lynch film noir; darkly sexy. Production/arrangements are perfect. Comparisons to Nick Cave doing Lee Hazelwood have been thrown around.

I have mixed feelings about the album as a whole, but with each passing listen, "Dogs" burrows deeper into my psyche. That song is so majestically fucked up.

I listen to so much ambient, electronic, ECM jazz, post-classical now days... it's always a happy find to good guitar-based rock. I don't know how I found it but Withered Hand is spectacularly good. Shoe-gazey, thickly layered, big picture but raw rock.

I'm not really feeling the new Mac Demarco so far.

II was good, though, so I'm trying to give this a chance.

Lydia Lovelace's Somewhere Else has shot into my top tier for the year. Holy crap, kids, listen to this one.

I really dislike the production of this album.
The overall punch and dynamics of the songs are lost to big upfront drums and vocals with the rest of the mix jumbled into a big muddy mess.
Maybe Albini should remix this for a 2015 RSD gouge-session.

I'm still baffled that 2 was so popular.
I forced my way through that snoozer 2 times before I attributed it to just another shiny shrink-wrapped turd turned out by the hype machine.

yeah i find his stuff pretty much unlistenable. the only reason i wish i had kept "2" was because it sells for about $150 bucks now

This may be my AOTY now.

Shaping up to be another year of good-not-great stuff so far, though.

I still haven't listened to that new Swans album, but I just haven't been able to get myself in the mood for a new 2-hour Swans album yet. I'm sure it's good.

So far The Both track is my favorite thing off of Radcliffe's mix.

Hype.
