So, I guess there's a company in Tampa called Brew Bus that does brewery tours and whatnot and serves beer on the bus. In the past, they used beers from a variety of local breweries. Now, they are having Cigar City brew beer exclusively for them. I'm down at the beach this week and they sell the beer in some of the local stores--picked up a six of the Last Stop IPA and its actually pretty damn good: clean with very fresh, floral hops. I'll probably grab another six and maybe a six of the porter on my way out of town.

I've also decided that Monkeynaut just isnt for me...something about it is really out of balance and...dirty tasting. Good to see them getting distribution in Florida though.

I had more of that surprisingly good "IPA" from long Trail this weekend up in VT. I put that in quotes because calling something with 7.6% abv an IPA and not a DIPA is kinda bullshit, but the fuckers come in a sixpack at regular "decent sixpack" prices, if and when you can find them, so... -shrug-. So that shit is really good, much better than you'd expect from them. Wish it was easier to find around here. Everyone knows now, and fucking snaps it up.

How was that? They're practically in my backyard but I've never heard of them.

I find it weird that people hate cucumbers. My roommate does as well. It's like hating the sky or grass.

Speaking of IPA's and the World Beer Cup, the Hop, Drop 'N Roll IPA from NoDa Brewing in my neighborhood won Gold in the American IPA category beating out 223 other competitors. Pretty big stuff for them.

Not to keep bringing this beer up (or link to a Charlotte magazine blog post again), but I found this interesting about Hop, Drop, and Roll from this article.
Quote:
Because of Hop, Drop ‘n Roll’s quick ascension to popularity (for example, it is trading straight up for the famed Pliny the Elder from Russian River on Beer Advocate), limitations have started with the beer.

Still haven't tried Pliny the Elder myself.

For sure. As fate would have it, he's actually having a tasting that Saturday night of y'alls reunion...I told him we might be stopping by afterwards. But we can also go over there any old time.

Recents:

Between the Staves - This collaboration between Crooked Stave and Anchorage Brewing is a sour ale fermented in oak barrels with 3 strains of brettanomyces then finished for 11 months in cognac barrels with wild bacteria. Delicious. I'm a big fan of Anchorage but to my knowledge this is the first thing I've had by Crooked Stave. I don't think we get much from them out here.

I'm not a huge fan of anything by Deschutes other than Black Butte Porter which is probably why this one managed to stay in my fridge unopened since 2012. It's an Oud Bruin with 80% aged with cherries and 20% aged in french oak. Easily the best beer I've ever had from Deschutes.

No pic but I also had the house beer of Maximiliano which is a Highland Park Italian restaurant. Craftsman makes a custom beer for them which is a lager with oregano in it. It's good on its own but great paired with their pizza.

Well billy g, funny that you mention the Black Butte Porter, because I finally had one of those babies last night. Rich, complex, toasty, dark chocolatey delightfulness. Porter is my favorite style of beer, and I've had a lot of breweries version of the style. This is definitely in the top 10 I've had. Hate that Deschutes doesn't distribute to TN. Had to pick it up in KY.
