So, throwback thread to when we actually discussed albums...

It's impossible for me to not love a Spoon record, but this one touches on everything I love about them. Classic pop with weird FX flourishes. Its what they do best...

What ya'll thinkin?

I'm thinking the song "They Want My Soul" might be the best thing Spoon's ever done. Can't listen to it without hitting repeat.

Gave it a full listen yesterday for the first time, and I really like it - MUCH, MUCH better than Transference.

I think the time off between Transference and this has served them well. That, plus the addition of a full-time keyboard player. It sounds great, and I can't wait to finally see them live in a month.

I have a proud history of that dating back to Use Your Illusion.

He definitely brings a new sort of energy to the band...he's fun to watch when he plays guitar.

I'm at that stage with this album where my favorite track changes almost daily. When I get to that stage with any album, I know I've got myself a serious winner.

I always liked Spoon songs but I thought that 'Transference' was a huge step forward in terms of making an album that worked as one piece.

The fact that some people seem to be mentioning 'Transference' in a negative light gives me a fear that perhaps they have, in my opinion, gone backwards again.

Anyway, I'm going to an actual record shop today to get this and I'll probably end up spending too much money on other stuff....

I think you are in the minority when it comes to Transference. From everything I've gathered, that seems to be their least well-liked album.

I liked Transference a lot, too. Maybe not as much as the run from Series of Sneaks through Kill the Moonlight, but more than Gimme Fiction and GaX5.

Oh goodie. Another repetitive Spoon album -- but this time with synths!
And all the dads rejoiced.

Shit, I didn't even know this came out. I'm so out of the loop. I didn't know Tom Petty or the Pixies had albums out either.

I think the composition of the album is rewarding for those that take some time to absorb it.

I've listened to this thing three times already. It's not for me, gramps.
I do give kudos to this band for being able to sell the same song for 15 years.

Guess it's not for everyone then, Costanza.

When I spin Kill the Moonlight every other year or so, I enjoy it. And I still listen to d/l's of each new record to see if anything clicks, but everything after KTM has bored the hell out of me.

I don't see the monotonous argument holding any weight. This could be the most musically diverse record Spoon has ever done.

Hey Jerky, Talkin' bout your generation... hope ya die before ya get old...

I always like Spoon, listen to a new CD 5-6 times and never listen again. (KTM perhaps the only exception). Just something irrelevant and lightweight about their footprint.

I like this new one more than any of the past ones. I hear lots more grit and R&B in it, and Texas rootsy stuff, even though it also seems more pop than the past ones. Now let's see if I listen to it in three months.

saw them last night and couldn't get enough of the songs on new album. I think they played just about every song off it and they all sounded great.
