I've got a 4 x 4 in my office and it's really pretty perfect - looks good, accommodates stuff of all different sizes and won't be unreasonable to move once that day comes (hopefully not for a while).

Shit is legit.
Not gonna find cheaper, more structurally sound shelving unit that matches your couch.
I have two 4x1's: one is loaded completely with heavy books, the other is six feet of vinyl top to bottom.
(I bent a broad over and while she held onto it and pounded her hard bros. Shit was so cash)
Then I have a combined 4x2 completely loaded with records, books and crates of shit on top.
(I even got this cheap little fucking $7 end table to place my turntable on)

And unless you're a lazy retard, this shit is easy as fuck to disassemble and move.
And Craigslist is by far the easiest way to get 50+% off of pristine shit (how much abuse can a shelf really get?).
I bought everything for less than $100.

Furniture in general is a racket.
150% net profit off of everything you buy new off a showroom floor.
Truth.
..Even if your dumb significant other thinks it'll change your life.
It's stupid.
Then her lack of understanding can sucker you into buying fake antiques.

I'd need 3 of these. Too costly.

I've had an expedite for almost 2 years and the only problem that I have is that the edge sits on one of the diffusers for my hvac system. I think the heat has caused the edge to delaminate, but it's not that noticeable. I could also see water causing the same problem if it were to get wet often if your basement leaks or something.

We upgraded to the expedit several years ago, and haven't looked back. Without looking directly at them, I forget how big ours are, but they are just under 6' tall, and about 6-7 blocks wide. Ours are nearly full. No warping that I see. They're very sturdy. Best vinyl storage I've seen/had.

Thinking about the expedit again, but also thinking about the LP Bin

http://www.lpbin.com/

I'm tired of looking at spines.

LP bin is a little cost prohibitive, I'm wondering about just building one. Does anyone know if the drawers that you can get with the expedit hold front facing vinyl? That'd be the cheapest and fastest solution.

I haven't tried, but I don't think so. I'm pretty sure the openings in the expedit would be just big enough for an LP, so with the thick plastic bin, I doubt it. I use them for my 7"s.

Those LP bins look nice, but I'd imagine if you have any sizable collection, you'd need to have a lot of space.

Yeah, I saw those and thought they looked pretty nice. But, price and space constraints had me sticking with the Expedit. If I was gonna splash the cash and had the space for a few of those, I'd really want some.

If I had room, I would. That's only 3 hrs away. Sidenote--that's the record store I used to go to when I visited my grandparents in Cville. Bummer that they're closing.

You're free to try the bin I've got. Or I suppose I can just dig out some vinyl and check for you. Call me and remind me tonight and I'll do this.

I'm going to bump this old thread for a specific format.

How does everyone stores 7"s and 45s? My current system is out of space and I'd like something efficient yet easy to flip through and not too intrusive on a room.

I don't listen to seven inches / 45's too often; nor do I have an extensive collection so this might not work if you...

I have two of these "lekman box" Expedit plastic inserts with a couple rows of 45 and 7" records along with CD jewel cases crammed into each one. If you're super concerned about organization and maintaining the condition of the sleeves and inserts, you'd probably only get a single row in each box.

There are probably better options since, due to the height (~13"), there's a lot of unused space; but it's much more aesthetic than a milk crate, I have all my seven inches in one spot and they're in the Expedit with the rest of my vinyl.

I'm still using the same shelf thing I was using 3+ years ago! honestly though, I've been using it all my life. Vinyl is definitely at "overflowing" status now.

i use the cardboard boxes that you can buy in most record stores and line them up on top of my expedit shelves. depth-wise, they're perfect. i try to keep about 4-5 inches of space for easy flipping. there're probably more convenient ways, but i haven't found any so cheap that also fit in with my existing storage.

I use the cardboard box, too. I'm not that big on 7"s/45s either so I only have one that's a little over 2/3 full. And I have it slid into the last open cubby in my Expedit (now called Kallax) next to a couple of vinyl box sets. It looks surprisingly OK this way.

It is hard to find an affordable turntable these days. Well, a quality one anyway, as compared to 5-10 years ago.

Just had this installed in my yard so I can still hang out and enjoy the warmth of music during the fall/winter. Great place to store all those Wilco albums you bought on the recommendation of pitchfork as a teenager. Image

There's an ipod dock attached to the corner wall paneling just a little further up.
