I'll give it a shot. The top 3-5 can probably shuffle into any order on any given day:

Fumaça Preta - Fumaça Preta
Portugese-speaking Columbians living in Amsterdam making a ruckus with a groove that sounds like Os Mutantes or Tom Zé jamming with Captain Beefheart.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugWRFUYr_LY

The Thons - Thirty Foot Snake
Chicago-based retro punk band, with a great guitar player for fans of The Strokes, The Fall, Television, and Parquet Courts. This record is better than PC's newest one. And, it's free at their Bandcamp page.

Phil Ajjarapu - Sing Along Until You Feel Better
You should all know this one by now. Bravo, Phil!!!

The Limiñanas - Trouble In Mind
If Serge Gainsbourg were a woman who sang in a Nuggets-like 60s garage rock band.

Freeman - Freeman
Dean (Gene?) Ween's first solo album sounds like twisted, tweaked early solo McCartney.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvXxAGPOB4I

D'Angelo - Black Messiah
Maybe it's too early to actually put this one on my list, but the early returns indicate that there is no way that this one shouldn't be here.

James - La Petite Mort
Their best album since Laid, IMO.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWPgJkOdUZU

The War on Drugs - Lost In the Dream
Atmospheric and wonderful update of the sound of The Waterboys and World Party.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LmX5c7HoUw

Tom Zé - Vira Lata Na Via Lactea
I can't help it. I find this man's music endlessly fascinating, every single time.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4qqkrLquQs

Wand - Ganglion Reef
The ballsy, rocking, riff-happy band that was always missing from the Elephant 6 collective.

If and when I feel like giving it some more time, I could flesh out a Top 20 or 25. Plus there are a couple more albums that I should probably hear that might change this around. But this will do for now, methinks.

That Freeman song is kind of Elliott Smith-like until the "fuck you all" breakdown at the end. My fav cut from that album is "The English and Western Stallion," minus the annoying 15 or so second intro. I tend to miss Dean but at least it's a step forward from that Rod McKuen tribute album he put out 2 years ago.

Phil's album would be pretty high on my list and TWOD would probably make it as well.

this video is incredibly awesome - kinda tough to watch for me as it hits a little close to home.

the song is pretty good too, might have to give the album a listen.

Well now, that first one is totally new to me and very interesting, thanks.
I agree one reason War on Drugs is so appealing is because they sound like the Waterboys.
Most interesting list from you in years (or maybe I'm just getting soft).

Thanks for the Thons recommendation, Todd! Listened to that album a bunch this year. D'Angelo was really good. Props to Phil. Indifferent to War on Drugs. Gotta check out the rest when I get time.

I think it's helped that I started writing reviews for a psych blog, and got to hear a lot more stuff that I usually would, and a lot of things that I normally wouldn't even know about, let alone seek out.
Digging it a bunch and looking forward to 2015's discoveries.

That Fumaça Preta track is pretty cool. I may need to hear more.
