will do.

I rarely venture beyond Studio Ghibli when it comes to Japanese animation, but I know I should. Just lazy, I guess.

I do hope that comes to Netflix, though, because I'm also cheap.

i'll make a horror list.

Watched 'the babadook' this weekend.

the acting performances were excellent, but i though the movie overall was pretty average...

i guess the acting was excellent, because i wanted to strangle that kid too.

i thought it was scary and the babadook looked and sounded awesome, despite how little you saw of it.

So Lego Movie got stiffed in the Oscar noms in favor of How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Boxtrolls. Huh. And as much as I liked Big Hero 6, it was not a better movie than Lego, either.

The foreign movies nominated both look good, especially the Studio Ghibli one, The Tale of Princess Kaguya, which I didn't even know about until now. In fact, I just went ahead and pre-ordered it. It should probably win on aesthetics alone:

The other one, Song of the Sea, looks beautiful, but if it's anything like Secret of Kells, it might actually be kinda boring to watch. I still haven't made it through that whole movie.

To me, Lego and BH6 were both significantly better than Dragon 2 and Boxtrolls (both of which were good, but not great).

I would like to see Boxtrolls, but I don't have high expectations. HTTYD 2 was neat, as I said earlier in the thread, but it was pretty much just a 100-minutes dragon fight. It didn't really have the charm of the first movie.

The Lego Movie was actually formally inventive. Yes, I realize fake stop-motion CG animation, even Lego animation, has been around a long time, but the movie took it much further and executed it at a much higher level than I think it ever had been.

The Oscars are slowly becoming the Grammys.
