I'm liking that His Hero is Gone album. Thanks for the intro.

Although I am obsessing over all 3 at the moment, Tragedy has been my overall favorite so far...

The Districts are local kids. I'm somewhat unfamiliar with them, other than knowing that there's been a bunch of local buzz surrounding their live shows and such. Looks like A Flourish and a Spoil is getting a lot of attention from the big-name presses. Anyway, the song you linked above was pretty cool, so thanks!

(My current musical obsession is Pavement. I'm only 20-odd years behind the times.)

I can only seem to find mediocre music. I try to find the good stuff but i just don't have a musical ear. Damn.

I think that it's this local band: The Thons.
They put out 2 studio albums and a live album last year. And then a new one came out a couple of weeks ago.
So, I think the fact that they are so prolific is keeping my interest stoked. But the fire wouldn't heve been lit int he first place if the music wasn't awesome. And it is.

i can't remember the last time i've been bowled over so completely by such a random find. a simple retweet by Califone led me to Cat Meat. yep, terrible band name, but goddamn i canNOT stop listening.

dusty americana via London - one part M. Ward, one part Tindersticks, plus throw in a dash of early (aka good) My Morning Jacket and some of the rattle and clang of the aforementioned Califone. the vocals took a second for me, but now this is just hitting the e-stone sweet spot so well.

"Trench"

"Plankton Gorge"

"Lungfish"

download their entire catalog "name your price" here

Checking it out.
Thanks for the tip!

Incidentally, my current obsession's new album is a free DL at their site, if you like.

Trying to thing who the voice reminded me of, and it just hit me—Samuel Herring from Future Islands. (Minus the growly parts.)

i've only heard that "Seasons" tune, but i can see that. i actually kinda liked that song...minus the growly parts.

they have some solid covers on their soundcloud site. this one in particular has me contemplating why i have not yet delved into any Vic Chesnutt (perhaps my next musical obsession):

"Isadora Duncan"

Dick Diver managed to avoid the dreaded “sophomore slump” with their 2013 album “Calendar Days” (Chapter Music) & look to perfect a “three-peat” with their third album “Melbourne, Florida”. Dick Diver started making rumblings in Melbourne in 2008, when the chemistry between guitarists Rupert Edwards & Alistair McKay coalesced with drummer Stephanie Hughes (Boomgates) and bassist Al Montfort (Total Control, UV Race, Lower Plenty). “Melbourne, Florida” is the band’s third album in six years time. The group had previously released an EP & two critically acclaimed albums (2013’s “Calendar Days” was nominated for The Age’s Music Victoria Awards; the largest public-voted music awards in Australia) on Australian label Chapter Music, but “Melbourne, Florida” is their first domestic release & first for Trouble In Mind. Recorded in a former sheep-shearing shed in Apollo Bay, Victoria by Mikey Young, “Melbourne, Florida” hums with a strident assurance, buoyed by the benefit of the band’s four talented songwriters whose singular voices sit comfortably beside each other in the albums twelve tracks. The crack of a snare starts off the lead-track, “Waste The Alphabet” an anthemic, jangling stomper full of bluster & swagger, while other tracks like “Leftovers”, “Year In Pictures” & “Percentage Points” yearn with a bookish intensity, complimenting the band’s dichotomy of erudite pop smarts and and idiosyncratic approach to composition (see Montfort’s charming & disarming “Beat Me Up (Talk to a Counsellor)”). If Dick Diver weren’t already leading the pack of new-school Australian pop, then “Melbourne, Florida” is sure to put them in the pole-position.

For me, my favorite album (and biggest revelation) of 2015 so far has been Creases by Sink Tapes. It's like a long lost release from I.R.S. Records...
