Yeah, I figured. Still, it made me chuckle.

I figured I would check in and see what was going on after a considerable absence.
A fair amount of people from this site are aware that my brother underwent a rare double lung and liver transplant at the University of Colorado-Anschutz Medical Campus on March 10, 2015.
He got the call about organs being available at around noon on March 9, 2015 and took a medical flight to Colorado about an hour later. They began harvesting the organs around 8:00pm and began the transplant somewhere around 2:30am Tuesday morning.
My siblings and I took a flight out to Denver late in the afternoon, while my Dad drove out there and all arrived in time for the operation. It took about ten hours, but he pulled through it. He is breathing on his own and may be allowed to begin his rehabilitation process at an extended stay facility by the end of the week.
There are many things that I prepared myself for, but that didn't make the experience any less easier. I'm hoping that the family of the organ donor choose to contact us, since my conscious has been heavy on the subject for the past couple days.

Glad to hear all went well, and here's hoping your brother has a speedy recovery! Definitely sounds like a massive procedure.

Wow. I hope all goes well with the rehabilitation and recovery, too!

I would imagine the donor family would be happy (or consoled somewhat, I guess?) to know about your brother, if they don't already.

Still, I love the guy and, just the fact that I (or anybody) could believe for a moment that he might've worn a Sabbath shirt...

I missed this earlier, and ... whoa. That's incredible that he was selected, and everything is going well. Please let us know more when you can.

A couple of nights ago I was woken up by the sound of people yelling at the back door of the house next door (which is right outside my bedroom window):
"OPEN THE DOOR!!!"
Over and over. I peeked out and saw 3 cops there, pounding on the neighbor's door.

Apparently, the man who lived there had attacked his wife and tried to kill her with a sledgehammer. When she escaped to the neighbor's house on the other side and called the cops, he barricaded himself in his own house. After 45 minutes or so of the cops trying to get in, to no avail, he walked out his front door, peacefully where he was arrested. She got a restraining order and is moving away. It sounded unsure as to whether or not she was actually going to press charges (seriously?!?!), but she is moving away and putting the place up for sale.

It's been surreal. They always seemed like a nice couple. He was always very cool to us, even bringing us a whole smoked pork shoulder one time just for bringing in their mail while they were away.

Kinda shocking and very weird. I'm just glad that she is okay.

EDIT:
Quote:
Defendant was arrested and charged with 3 counts of misdemeanor criminal counts after police responded to a call of domestic violence at a private residence...

Now, this is fucked up:
Looks like he is only being charged with misdemeanor battery. Hoping that she presses more-serious charges. Although, I'm not sure how easy it will be to prove, or that she even will.
