I'm headed to Charlotte on Friday and I'm saving this to listen to on the ride up.

I'm usually an MMJ apologist so I'm curious to hear what terrible sounds like....

It's not terrible - just really, really meh.

This. It's incredibly soft and mushy.

So I've spun this about 4 times at this point and am not sure how it has produced any animosity. It's another MMJ record. If you've liked the last couple albums, you'll probably like this one, which I do.

They're now 16 years into their career. They abandoned the grain silo over a decade ago. Anyone still thinking they're going to put out some zeitgeist album is probably going to be disappointed but that's also a testament to how consistent they've been over that time. I agree with FT's assessment that Jim James crosses the line sometimes of spiritual mystic into cheeseball soup but I appreciate that he and the band fully commit to rock n roll true believerism.

I'm sure there are fans that got off with Evil Urges, or Circuital, or now this one, but I'm sure they continue to pick up other fans. I imagine this album will be much like their last for me, I'll listen to it this year a ton, it'll end up on the shelf, and it'll come out every couple years when I go see them live.

Which, and I agree with Krauth, is where they still kill it and some of these songs will be great live. Lots of room to stretch out on some of them.
