"this type of record is what encourages talentless/ugly/fat people to start bands. they think "hey! even I can do this!" and then before you know it there are more bands who 'play' sludgy inane drone 'metal' that sounds like they're still soundchecking than is really required. it's a pity that the option of giving no stars at all doesn't exist here. I've wanted to hear Sunn O))), but I was always kinda afraid that's what they'd sound like.

i've never heard them but the fact that their band name has the freakin' sun amp logo in it makes me never want to find out if i'd agree or not on teh prevailing opinion. . . though i tend to think i'd agree with you.

I've always been ambivalent about hearing them, but I have a friend who says they're good...

so I'm trying to check them out sometime soon...

Was over at the Southern Lord boards, and someone post that this month's 'Terrorizer' has a cover+ 5 page interview/pics and then 'Metal Maniacs' has a poster. Are they a buzz band or something? First I heard about them was on this board.

Not a "Buzz Band" by any MTV-styled definition, but definitely a "buzz band" by musical definition...

Since April, I've been converted - Sunn0)) are definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but I enjoy them. Kinda metal, kinda noisy, but slooooooooow - less Maiden, more test tones. I could see people who are into bands like Thulja digging them....

Yeah, it seems that they are gaining more steam in the press. I dig em, but only at certain intervals. Thanks to whoever turned me onto them on here. I think whoever did also turned me onto Earth as well.
