for pure "kill me every time upon hearing one note and i have to listen to 40 of his songs until i'm satisfied" magic there is only one: Otis

others that kill me often:

Johnny Cash
Merel Haggard
Prince
Ghostface
Neil Young
Bob Dylan
Grand Puba
Lord Finesse
Big L
Nick Drake
Jeff Tweedy
Al Green

I'm gonna resurrect this thread to add one more "magical voice to the list"
Dwight Yoakam

Can sing just about anything and make it great.
Damn him.

And he plays a good wife-beater.

Whoa. Now THIS was spooky.

I was reading the thread, trying to think of people, saw my old post and had this feeling of "someone read my mind".

Of course then I realized it was ME.
Very Groundhog Day.

Okay, so I'd add to this:

Tracey Thorn
Margo Timmins
Louis Armstrong (didn't see if he's on this list already)

And I'm tempted to remove my dear Moz, on account of his two last records.
:(

I'll say Alison Krauss again, for good measure. One of my favorite voices.

I've always loved Nat King Cole's voice and delivery. No matter how weak the song, I still enjoy his voice.

Damn I forgot another one. He's well off most radars on this board, but Don Williams has one of my favorite voices, so much so that I bet he could tell me I terminal cancer and my obituary would probably include a mention of all the fucked up shit residing on my computer and I'd still think, damn, that's good....

This is an excellent choice. I'm also on board with Elvis and Roy.
