I just read the Pitchfork review this morning.

I checked out a clip of the song "leave the city" and it sounded great.

Anybody have this yet?

I have it and like it quite a lot. I'll post it if anyone's interested. They're actually playing my new hometown of Saskatoon on May 9th. I'm hopefully going to check them out then.

I think it's a definite improvement on that shit live record he put out, and I like it, but I think the Pitchfork review was pretty precise. It's very blissfully unsure of itself.

Holy shit. Contradiction, your signature just reminded me that I had a crazy dream about Prince last night. He played a terrible show, sans band, just DJ'ing and fiddling with a laptop. The whole space – loft-, rather, apartment-like – was mostly empty. He rode the most pimping red stretch Caddy SUV to the show, though. Wild.

I like it a lot, and I don't really agree with Pitchfork's overall assessment. I agree that the track with guest vocals is probably the weakest, but it's better than either of the ones on Magnolia Electric Co. I also agree that "Hammer Down" is the best song on the new one, and being such a big Jason Molina fan, just having one new song that's that good makes this record worthwhile for me.

I do think that the bulk of it is really good, too, especially "Leave the City" (easily the best track from the live album, slightly improved here), "The Dark Don't Hide It", "I Can Not Have Seen the Light".

Here's the thing. It is nowhere near as good as Magnolia Electric Co......however, it is still quite good and worth owning. Much better than the live record. New M. Ward is great i think

I think he jumped the shark as soon as the band name changed.

Well, it's not the best Neil Young release in recent years.

I like Magnolia Electric better (and several of the older Songs:Ohia stuff is more interesting). It sounds safe and scared. If you are going to be a Youngian (all crunchy americana, and simple as a zen sunstroke), the one thing you can't be is safe. I may like it more later, but right now it sounds like a holding pattern (I am not sure it's even better than the live release).
