With the 2006 season, Monday Night Football goes to ESPN. The Sunday night games go to NBC.

This is excellent news, since I will now have no reason to watch ABC...EVER.

I'll go to a bar to watch MNF, but what do I care if it's another 12 years before my Bengals make another MNF appearance?

Yeah - the interesting question becomes whether they'll be able to keep Madden/Michaels or have to turn things over to the Theissman-led team...

and, if they do, where Madden ends up commentating in 2006...

Amen to that. They've got an odd chemistry that just plain works. The bigger question, if Madden's contract isn't renewed, what does EA sports do? I think the back and forth banter of Theisman and crew would make for a much better game, similar to Corso/Herbstreet in the NCAA game. I never play Madden with the sound on, but I crank NCAA.

I like them a lot as a crew even if I despise Paul McGuire and Joe Theisman personally.

Who do you think NBC will get to do play by play? I vote Dick Enberg. On color? Hmmmm. Who is the #1 broadcast team on NBC's Arena Leagur broadcasts?

If everybody (The Dicks Enberg and Stockton, Michaels et al. ) are all under contract, NBC may be forced to go with one of their Arena broadcast teams or even Bob Costas ( ); rotate the color duties between Keith Olberman and Chris Mathews? Is Merlen Olson available?

What a mess.

My guess is that Madden is probably still under contract with Disney but will be limited to small roles on NFL Countdown. Hopefully his days of doing color are thankfully over. BAM!

yea, and I always thought that their coverage of ND was a little half-baked, so this NFL thing should be interesting

Yeah, because they only covered the NFL for about 40 years before they lost the contract to CBS 5 or 6 years ago.....

To wit:

Their coverage of Arena Football is pretty good, but

Their coverage of NASCAR is atrocious compared to FOX; Though it will be pretty nice for them to use the late season NASCAR races as a lead in to Sunday Night Football ; free promotion on the second higest rated television sport (NASCAR) is a good thing for the network and a natural cross-promotion.

haven't seen their coverage of Arena and I don't remember anything about their NFL coverage (even though it wasn't THAT long ago)

but I've usually got 2-7 channels showing college football on a fall Saturday, and anytime I've been forced to watch NBC (half-time, commercials, etc), it's always such a buzzkill

eeeeeeeeeeew.
that ESPN crew is the worst group of people ever. Each is worse than the last. And Madden is by far the best, no one is even close.

it might be a lack of Hockey, but i've actually watched a little bit of Arena football this year. It's not horrible. I could see liking it if the teams keep the same players for a few years so that i can know more than one dude (besides Bon Jovi.)

madden is kind of annoying, but I'd take him in a second over the espn crew. it usually only takes me to the middle of the 1st quarter to get to the point where i'm seriously considering hijacking a private jet to fly me to whereever the game is and kidnapping mcguire so that i can spend a month doing nothing but torturing him in my basement until all he can do is beg me to put him out of his misery

and theisman lets the others bully him without ever sticking up for himself. i dont want to hear such a pussy talking about football or sports in general, its bad enough they have chick reporters on the sidelines

ESPN's crew is a joke. Screw Theesman, Maguire... and somebody actually mentioned that ESPN's Corso was good in college ball? I couldn't disagree more.

It should go without saying, but Disney owns both ABC and ESPN and I'd be surprised if both Michaels and Madden aren't hosting that first ESPN monday night game. It's not like they're changing companies or anything.

I don't watch games regularly enough to be bothered by this. MNF starts at 2:00 am Tuesday morning.

Watching ESPN is watching ABC and ABC is watching Disney. Sorry, they're all one big annoying empire. I can't tear myself away from ESPN otherwise I'd boycott Disney altogether.
