Honestly, I don't get the women as sex object makes them less thing. Despite what Darrin says, I think boobs have a biological effect that makes most men interested. I think it can become a problem, but as long as the women controls the situation and is comfortable with it, than what's the problem?

Only been twice, and with other people, years ago. Didn't go for my bachelor party, because I openly forbid it (plus the only one here in town is janky as all hell).

One job back in athens was right next to one of the 2 strip clubs, and we used to watch contractors go in there on the clock, and stay for like 2, 3 hours all the time. Once they parked in our lot, sent one dumbass in to ask for something that doesn't exist ("oh you don't have it, ok cool" and then he bolts). Meanwhile the other 2 are already crossing the lot to the club. Our boss gets pissed (we had like 8 spots, and needed them) so he reads the phone number off the door of their work truck, gets their boss, asks if he knows where truck #6 is. Bossman flips out, has his assistant drop him off, gets in their truck and drives it back to the shop.

An hour later, the 3 dumbasses come out of the club, look around for their truck, come in and ask us if we know where it went ("Nope. Sorry.") Then they elect one of themselves to call the shop. The boss made them find their own transportation back, I guess, because one of their girlfriends came and picked them up a while later.

while the "biological effect" makes some men (and some women) interested, that "interest" can cause a perception that women are no more than their "effects." a sex object is an object, not a person. while for some people becoming an "object" is a fetish and a fantasy, i'd say dubbing anybody (male or female) as a sex object is degrading and dehumanizing.

I think the key word is can. I think thae idea that most men can't seperate sexual interest and women as human being is more degrading. I mean doesn't that portray a similarily one sided view of men?

i was just gonna say that. that darrin rocks, not what darrin said. i'm not so witty.

i always get terribly bored at strip clubs, but i've been to few.

The way I see it, there's a difference in seeing women as sex objects & seeing women ONLY as sex objects.

I've only been to one strip joint in my life, & I've only been to that one like, 4-5 times. It was in Pittsburg, KS - where I went to college, & I always ended up there with friends half-drunk already.

More than anything, the place was just kinda depressing...& not sexy in the least. I tended to end up just sitting around & shooting the shit with the "talent" when they weren't onstage. Heard some good stories.

I'm more of a butt guy than boob guy. For example, I think my butt looks ok but wish I could get rid of my man-tits.

You will see crazy shit in strip clubs that you will never see in any other establishment ever. They are dens of fucked up dysfunctional activities of every order.

I hate the nice ones, that's just paying rent twice in one month. I like the sleazy ones that are real dark.

"The Block", a part of Baltimore's East Baltimore Street, is the perfect strip bar amusement park. As I've said before, they let Larry Flynt put in a Hustler Club to clean the area up.

Bouncers scoring drugs for dancers, handjobs at the bar, a bartender spitting in a glass then wiping it clean, anything goes. You don't have to dress nice, you don't have to act nice.

Some of the girls are junkies and prostitutes. Some are girls from fucked up backgrounds who don't take shit off nobody. Some have some funny stories and some have some heartbreaking ones. Some are out to play you for all they can get, and some others are uncharacteristically honest and hardworking in some bizarro fashion.

I haven't been to a strip club in several years, but it's always a "Guys Night Out" sort of thing. My friend and I go every so often and reminisce about talking our way in the door when we were 16-17 years old. It's a getaway. Usually the bars on the block aren't crowded, so you don't have to mess with that.

Also, I don't get into the ass shakin' contests of the giant dance clubs, especially the ones in Baltimore like Bohager's and Baja. These girls are writhing and grinding and making out with other women on dares--basically doing the same thing for free, or maybe a few drinks and lots of attention. And it's not uncommon to see nudity either at these "normal" clubs, especially if there's a thong contest or something like that.

Another big plus: I think I've only ever seen one fight in a strip club, and it was only between two guys and over very quickly. Regular bars? Sheeeeit.

I have been known to go from time to time. I have a friend that really likes to go...have probably only gone a couple times in the past few years.

Portland has a lot of really sleazy strip clubs.

there's a difference but either way you're still viewing them as objects. it's one thing to think women (or men) are sexy -- it's quite another to call them sex objects.

Me. I mean I'm not gonna put my fucking head in between them and be like AAAAGGGHHHHH, shaking my face all around but...

Girls are fucking great to look at. That's it. Dudes that don't "get" strip clubs are the same guys that jerk off at home with some girls name written on their hand with a sharpie.

Sorry to be kinda snippy here but I'm hung the fuck over and don't feel like putting up with idiots today.

Exactly. Sex object, scmex object. Have none of you ladies looked at a man and said "He's hot" or "nice bod," or whatever the fuck people say about people they are attracted to.

I love how immediately, we jump to the conclusion that all the women here are fucked up, and all the guys are some kind of dicky waivers/date rapists who can barely control their animal urges.

I for one appreciate the female form, but anyone who knows me can attest to the fact that I like em smart...but that's cos I hate dumb people, not just dumb women.

Like I tried to say before, long as you ain't a regular, there is nothing wrong with these places. They can be fun skipping work on friday, or at 3 am on a saturday when you're too drunk to see straight and throwing dollar bills at the stage like Jay-Z, screaming for "Somebody to find me some fucking blow!!"

Well, with all due respect to strippers, Dave, there's a reason you won't find a lot of smart ones. The historical tendency of men to objectify women has created a social environment where subjecting themselves to this kind of debasement is a more attractive option for many women than going to the trouble of getting an education only to find that they can't get a decent job or make nearly as much as men at the jobs they do get. This is less true today than it has been in the past, especially where equal opportunity employment is taken seriously, but that hardly applies to all (or even most) of the country, and until there's actual equality, you can bet that this kind of employment isn't a real "choice" in the sense that it would justify thinking your presence in a strip club wasn't to some degree contributing the the problem.

So now I am a party to gender inequality? Cool, I've been called worse. Hell, most people around here probably think I'm a racist and a whore monger as well, so that's fine.

I wasn't saying that I look for smart strippers, but smart women, and can tell the difference between the "all women as sex objects" vs. "sometimes seeing women as sex objects" as usual when arguing ESPECIALLY around here, I tend to see everything and everybody as having a compromised morality, and most others seem to feel that things come in absolute, neat compartmentalized boxes, when in fact they do not.

I know it's a cliche, but one of my boy's wife is putting herself through med school shakin dat ass, and more power to her. Where else could she make enough the money she does working one night a week. If she is doing it by taking advantage of whore mongers and dicky waivers, all the better, n'est-ce pas?

Strippers make fistfuls of cash. Moreso than many professional jobs for women or men.

But with everything, there is a tradeoff.
