Okay, so you meet a girl at a party. She's a friend of a friend's and you hit it off. You find out she doesn't have a boyfriend. She's seeing this one guy but he's been blowing her off and avoiding her for a week. So the party ends and she leaves before you get a chance to ask for a phone number or anything.

What recourse do I have? Besides asking our mutual friend, I don't see one. And that's a road I'd like to avoid.

Call her up tell her you had fun hanging out with her at the party. Invite said girl for a drink (alcoholic or non-).

ask the mutual friedn to speak to her and ask if its ok, if you get her number from the mutual friend.. if she says yes to give it to you, youre in..if she says no, no direct rejection.

but he said he'd rather not go through the mutual friend.....

is she in the phonebook? just call her outright.

No option other than the mutual friend. I don't see why this is a bad thing. Your friend wants to see you get some, right? He/she should be glad to talk you up and help you out in any way possible.

Just use your mutual friend. It's all I ever do these days. In fact I ask my female friend to go make friends with girls I like, it's the lazy guy's way of getting to know a girl.

but the mutual friend thing could get awkward if:

a)mutual friend likes alongdrive
or
b)mutual friend likes girl in question.

Uhhh...the mutual friend option is the only way to go.

I guess I don't get your hesitation in having your friend help, it sounds like there's something there you aren't telling us. And frankly it sounds like the only option you do have anyway.

So your choices are as follows:

1) Ask your friend for phone number or to even feel situation out(if the guy she dated was a dick she'll either welcome you being awesome or she'll have no interest in men right now)

OR

2) Pray you bump into her randomly on the street really, really soon(chances of this happening- 1 in 1000)

OR

3) Forget you ever met her because you have no other option.
