Villains United >>>> OMEC

Dusty, how was Remains?
Steve Niles manages to creep me out pretty regularly, but The Walking Dead is probably the best zombie tale i've heard in a decade.

I think I've read Remains. It's pretty good. What's Singularity about?

Are you up to #3 on Villains United yet? The part with Catman on the operating table is great.

I need to pick up The Walking Dead. It looks like it has a really deep storyline to it.

I mostly read Marvel. Pretty much the only DC I read is Vertigo stuff. And even that's really just 100 Bullets (which is starting to disappoint a little) and Grant Morrison's recent string of mini-series (We3, SeaGuy, and Vimanarama). It sucks DC signed him to an exclusive contract. New X-men was pretty sweet. I did pick up the new Frank Miller/Jim Lee Batman and Robin thing. It has some promise. I never really liked the DC characters, besides Batman and maybe Green Arrow. They all seem horribly dated, and completely lacking of any grit. They were made for a different time when people wanted their heroes to be completely super-human and fantastic. There's never been a good DC equivalent to the X-men or Daredevil. With the exception of Batman when he is done right.

Also, I refuse to buy Infinite Crisis or House of M, because to me the multi-book, entire company cross-over series is always a bad idea. It, along with the mulitple-cover or special trading card inside capitalize on the fan boy attitude, is what killed comics for me in the early 90's. These things will get you to try and buy fucking Alpha Flight or something just to know what's going on in the whole huge story and then you end up buying a bunch of crap written by B level comics writers.

Good call on Runaways, alongdrive. Brian K. Vaughn is the shit right now. Y the Last Man, Runaways, and Ex Machina are some of the best comics being made right now.

yeah, that's one of the reasons that i'm lovin' VU. I know next to none of those characters, but they've been consistently entertaining. especially parademon.

Walking Dead's first 2 trade paperbacks are worth picking up. kinda sucks it's black & white, but it's not like you don't get a good feel of things. i kinda wish 30 days of night were b&w.

I've only just started reading it, but it's already enjoyable. It seems to be a take on Romero's realm. But with drugs and sex and stupidity.

Singularity 7...and it's about...um...nanobots...sort of. It's also sort of a vampire/swamp thing/end of the world/Fantastic Four kind of story.

Why Swamp Thing? I don't know, because I get tired of the whole Frankenstein analogy.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. All I know is there's this series called IDENTITY CRISIS that reveals a huge secret within the JLA, and then comes the OMAC PROJECT where Wonder Woman and Superman go at it. And then there's something called INFINITE CRISIS where again members of the JLA turn on each other. Chaotic and I'll figure it out some day.

Hopefully, someone could bring us up to speed.

*SPOILERS*
I'm not sure if this is in the correct order as in the books.

In Identity Crisis someone kills Elongated Man's wife, Sue Dibny. Dr. Light is one of the main suspects and it's revealed that he tried to kill/rape her earlier and Hawkman, Green Arrow, Zatanna, Black Canary and a few others stopped him and then decided to wipe his mind so he would no longer be a threat. Batman walked in on them doing this, Zatanna stopped him and then they wiped Batman's mind of this incident. Flash found out about this and said they had to tell Batman about this or he'd tell Batman himself. Robin's father and Captain Boomerang kill each other. Dr. Light hires Deathstroke to be his bodyguard when Hawkman, Zatanna, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Flash & Black Canary come after him. There's an awesome fight with Deathstroke taking on all of them. Then Dr. Light remembers that they wiped his mind and escapes.

This is kinda where I thought the series fell apart.

The Atom's wife is almost killed and it's finally revealed that she stole the Atom's gear and is the one that killed Sue Dibny. I forget if Flash tells Batman what happened or if he finds out himself but Batman is pretty much pissed off about this and I think he leaves the JLA. I'm not sure if I missed anything else. Anyone?

The OMAC Project is pretty good so far. I'll leave that one spoiler free for now.
I didn't care too much for the ending to Identity Crisis. OMAC has been fantastic!

I hope Allstar Batman & Robin and Desolation Jones got put in my folder at the comic store. My friend was working there wednesday and I called to ask her to put them in for me but she started being a bitch* when I called so I hung up on her.

* = Sorry but I think whining about me calling you on your cell phone instead of the store phone when you called me 5 times in one hour a few days before qualifies you as a bitch.

Allstar Bats (1st issue) is not action packed at all, but the last page is awesome!

Damnit, now i'm in the mood to play Batman Begins on XBOX!

Good game, by the way.

This could be written word for word by my father. He collected basically every core Marvel title from the early 70's through to 1994, when he stopped altogether because of too many foil/hologram covers, crossover storylines, and other stuff like that.

I started regularly collecting in '98 so I've still got four years of back issues I'm trying to catch up on.

I like Desolation Jones a lot. It reminds me how much I like Warren Ellis sometimes. Which makes me wish he put out a new Planetary issue more than twice a year...

He's Despero. This explains it better than I could. He was in the old JLA series written by Giffen & DeMatteis. That series was sillier than the current one except when Despero showed up once or twice. He killed a bunch of Leaguers in one of the issues, I can't remember which ones. They're writing JLA Classified now if you want to check out what the old JLA was like, tho I don't think their brand of humor has aged well.

Yeah, I finished JLA #115 and 116 last night. Nice. Hawkman is a bitch, how dare he tell Green Lantern, he's not with the JLA anymore. GL will always be the JLA, in my opinion.

These aren't so pisspoor. I'll probably be picking these up eventually.

Astonishing X-Men has gone downhill, but it's still pretty decent. Better than any X-book has been in a long, long time.

I'm not buying all the tie-ins to House of M, but the core book is pretty good so far. Bendis is probably my favorite writer on any superhero title right now. I like New Avengers, too.

The Peter David Hulks have been kinda disappointing, but I'll stick with them for a few more issues, maybe (plus it ties in with House of M). The art has at least been really nice in these (Lee Weeks, then Jae Lee, and then somebody else who seems pretty good).

I need to check out some other B.K. Vaughan books besides Ex Machina. Everyone seems to like Runaways.

The stuff mentioned above plus Shaolin Cowboy and Stray Bullets are about all that I read now. The DC stuff just doesn't interest me at all. All those shake-ups remind me of all the stuff they did 10-15 years ago when I was big into comics: the Death of Superman, Batman's back getting broken, and Green Lantern turning evil. The only one of those that seemed to have any lasting effect was the Green Lantern thing (and that was probably the best story). Plus I thought they finished straightening out all that continuity stuff with Zero Hour. That whole thing seems to be pretty much forgotten, too.
