I'm considering a 3-4 city stop in September via rental car.

Places to visit:

Montreal
Boston
New York
Philly (Maybe)
State College, Pennsylvania (to visit my sister)

I need the low down on Montreal. Are there any websites a la chicago reader or metromix that would give me intimate knowledge of the city and people?

Here's the advice our own Bonor Obnerst gave me about Montreal when I visited:

Quote:
The Plateau and Mile-End are very pretty areas to wander around. Downtown is what it is. Definitely check out Mont-Royal Park and climb the mountain. People suggest going to the Biodome and such attractions ... Also, you should walk around Old Montreal.

Places to eat/chill:
Breakfast places: Chez Jose, Senzala, Dusty's, Le Petit Marché, Beauty's ...

Dinner: there's lots of cheap, decent, bring your own wine places on Duluth, east of St-Laurent and east of St-Denis, too

Other: La Pharmacie Esperanza, St-Viateur Bagels, Le Jardin du Cari, Schwartz' Deli, Patati Patata, uhhhhhh.

Hope that helps a bit. Grab one of the weeklies when you get in: The Mirror or Hour, and they'll tell you what's up.

Hey, Tania. I'm going to be in LA on this coming Friday through the following Thursday. My wife is attending a conference for most those days, so it'll be me and my two daughters on our own for the days.

Do you have any suggestions on fun things to do with kids in LA? We'll be going to Disneyland for a couple of days at the end of the week, but I'm looking for other entertaining things to do Friday-Monday.

I think I remember you saying you had neices and nephews, so I figure you might have some ideas.

Sorry about the thread hijack Locky, BTW.

Ooooh! Well, let's see, I suggest the following:

. If you wanna do museum type stuff, the King Tut exhibit is currently going on at LACMA (http://www.kingtut.org/la.htm).

. Venice Beach / Santa Monica Pier -- Venice Beach boardwalk has a lot of different stuff to look at, Muscle Beach; Santa Monica Pier has a great carousel, games for kids...plus, it's the beach!

. Grauman's Chinese Theatre -- size up your feet and hands with the stars.

. Olvera Street -- where the history of LA began.

. Children's Museum of Los Angeles -- http://www.childrensmuseumla.org/flashindex.html

. Do the kids like water parks? There's Raging Waters and Hurricane Harbor (part of Six Flags Magic Mountain). [/list]

If there are other things you'd prefer to, lemme know. I'm sure I can come up with more.

PS -- If you'd like to take the kids to see a movie at an authentic drive-in, there's one near my house that I can refer you to.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We do already have tickets to see the King Tut exhibit on Monday night. The other ideas sound great. Thanks again.

I do plan on taking my girls to see the "historic" Amoeba Records at some point during the week---where is it, BTW?

The "historic" Amoeba is located on the corner of Sunset Blvd and Cahuenga Ave. (6400 Sunset Blvd, Hollywood)
