Congressman soon to be Governor Osborne probably should have booted him off the team after he and his ex got into a fight, instead of only suspending him for seven games in 1995. It's not like Nebraska really needed him with Tommie Frazier and Ahman Green, especially after they annihilated everyone with or without him.
The only thing that killed me about the whole Phillips fiasco was that everyone in the sporting press made Nebraska look like it was a Thug team ala Miami with Testaverde and Co. in 86, yet both Miami and Virginia Tech had quite a few more arrests that year compared to Nebraska.
No, congressman/soon to be gov. osborne shoulda been fired over this and the otehr incidents, instead of being elected to represent your state. You can't tell me holmes didn't have a gang of thugs, I've seen their recruiters and recruits say that they couldn't wear Husker colors cos the hoods they were in were Crip territory.
Not as if I really care, there are several former and current UGA players for whom rape isn't just a hobby, but a way of life.
