Still a class act

Quote:
A former NFL football player wanted on domestic violence charges in San Diego and Los Angeles was in custody today after allegedly driving a car into three teenagers with whom he had just played a game of pickup football.

Congressman soon to be Governor Osborne probably should have booted him off the team after he and his ex got into a fight, instead of only suspending him for seven games in 1995. It's not like Nebraska really needed him with Tommie Frazier and Ahman Green, especially after they annihilated everyone with or without him.
The only thing that killed me about the whole Phillips fiasco was that everyone in the sporting press made Nebraska look like it was a Thug team ala Miami with Testaverde and Co. in 86, yet both Miami and Virginia Tech had quite a few more arrests that year compared to Nebraska.

No, congressman/soon to be gov. osborne shoulda been fired over this and the otehr incidents, instead of being elected to represent your state. You can't tell me holmes didn't have a gang of thugs, I've seen their recruiters and recruits say that they couldn't wear Husker colors cos the hoods they were in were Crip territory.

Not as if I really care, there are several former and current UGA players for whom rape isn't just a hobby, but a way of life.

Christian Peter was a real model citizen- as was the fullback who had played at a junior college and "forgot". How much goes on in Lincoln where the cops look the other way?

Osborne was the ultimate two face- how do you think the girl that Phillips threw down a flight of stairs felt watching him play in the NC game? Guess it doesn't matter- Nebraska won.

Threw? L.P. dragged her down those stairs--ugly shit, dude.

Law-dawg is a fucking pariah, he busts the Scnellenberger/Switzer/Osbourne recruiting formula of: "Let's go into South Central (or applicable ghetto) and recruit the biggest, fastest n*****s we can---the alumni will pay the freight, and damn the consequences"

The cops in Lincoln tend to try to bust college students and the athletes. They set up an armada of police cars down "O" Street where all the college bars and clubs are at just before midnight and focus most of their attention on that area, while allowing people to shoot at each other in my old neighborhood.
Jamaal Lord and his Volleyball star girlfriend had an incident with the cops two years ago where he was charged with Disturbing the Peace due to loud music, despite the fact no prior complaints had been reported against his house. Supposedly, His girlfriend was drunk and disorderly upon arrival, and the cops began investigating a domestic disturbance despite the fact that there were no obvious signs of an incident.
The Lawrence Phillips incident with his girlfriend according to records here are that both he and his girlfriend were wrestling and fighting with each other and that they fell down the stairs together at her place. Her head hit a mailbox unit and I believe a fire hydrant or fire hose container. 48hrs or Dateline did a piece on it that year where they slightly embellished the incident, this is what most sports writers cite as the incident.
The funny thing was that the incident never would have happen had former Husker QB Scott Frost not called Phillips. It was widely rumored that Frost and Phillips girlfriend were cheating with each other and that Frost was essentially setting Phillips up for some sort of incident.
I hardly believe Osborne deserved to fired over the incident when schools like FSU and Miami, as well as half of the SEC and most of the former SWC were cheating like mad during those days and had equally high profile incidents.
Other than Phillips and the drunk Christian Peter, Abdul Muhammad was the only other major player involved in an incident and he was shot in the ass while visiting LA. Nebraska tends to be cited as a positive example of collegiate athletics due to its record number of Academic All-Americans and GPA/Graduation rate of student athletes. I believe they have one of the highest rates for a public university on the D-I level.

Phillips should've been in jail years ago.

A waste of sperm.

And Mr. Tom Osborne is a class act, no matter what you cynical people say. The guy truly believes that everyone has good in them, so he tends to be a little too forgiving. That doesn't make him a two-face. His biggest "fault" is being too caring of a person.

Thanks for putting the fire back under me.
