I am no expert skier so skiing on Mt. Hood is good for me - Meadows is a pretty big place with a lot of nice long runs. Mt. Bachelor in Bend blows it away though - it is usually rated one of the top ski resorts in the country.

I doubt I would ever fly somewhere just to ski - if I am ever in UT for some reason then I would check it out.

Can anyone answer this for me?

I want to learn to snowboard. I'm competent enough on skis to be able to handle black diamonds. I've been told that after you have endured the brutal learning period and get the hang of snowboarding that it is much more fun. Can anyone attest to this? A buddy of mine said he'll never go back to skiis.

My faves:

1) Vail, CO
2) Park City, UT
3) Steamboat, CO

no downhill skiing or snowboarding (now there was a lesson in humility)

but looking forward to some cross-country action this winter.

I'm a very good skier. I'm also a good snowboarder. I snowboarded for about 2 years in high school, during the transition period from skinny skis to fat/twintip skis. I then went to back to skis, bought a pair of hefty fatties, and never looked back.

My preference is skiing.

Depending on conditions, snowboarding can be a blast - but I seriously don't know any expert skiers who switched to snowboarding for good. You can just do way more on a set of skis than on a board. Some may argue the point, but they won't argue it while they're at the top of a couloir.

first my faves:
solitude, ut
snowbird, ut
brighton, ut

i used to ski all the time but have been snowboarding for 8 years now and it is by far my favorite of the two. there is nothing better than riding through powder (like the 2 feet of which i did yesterday). the first time is very discouraging and painful, so is the second time, but the learning curve is steep and by the third time you will likely be able to make it down without falling. then you will never ski again. i still own skis and occasionally go with my daughters but i gaze longingly at the riders all day... i grew up in the east and there is a reason why people in the west are 'snow snobs'...it's because skiing in the east bloooooowwwwwws!
just a fact of life, get over it.
one of the reasons why utah rocks is because people like rparis wont come here and i have never once waited more than 5 minutes to get on a lift.
oh, snowbird is also 8 miles from my house which you can't get in denver.
that is all, discuss.

Hell, I might come up to Utah to learn how to snowboard.
