I recently bought way of the Vaselines and have been liking it alot so far. They are pretty much the perfect lo fi pop band. Does anyone else here listen to them?

I love that collection.
I agree that they are pretty much the perfect lo-fi pop band.
Although, sometimes the tinniness of the production starts to grate. Still, the songs are wonderful.

I love it. I'm just disappointed that the one disc is the extent of all their recordings.

well, i don't have a regular gig. and i haven't done anything in the last few months since getting a real job, but i was dj'ing at smartbar last year occasionally. and it's closed for renovations now, so i don't know when i might be there again. there's a possibility to do something at darkroom, but it's not fixed yet.

Eugene Kelly has been active post Vaselines

His bands:

Captain America
BMX Bandits (I think he was in them, but am too lazy to double check)
Eugenius

He also released a solo album earlier this year. I made a thread asking if anyone had heard it a few months ago which got no replies. Supposedly its more pop oriented along the lines of Teenage Fanclub, etc. I'll probably end up picking it up at some point.

Oh, and BMX Bandits was Duglas Stewart's band, but I don't know whether Kelly participated.

Kelly was briefly in the band in the early 90's and appears on the 1991 Star Wars album. He left though when he formed the Captain America band.

I ended up picking up that solo album that i referenced above. Its pretty good if you're a big fan of scottish pop and completely unessential if you're not.

I'm interested in this show and hope it doesn't sell out quickly. I'd like to go but I'm not sure its something I'd try to plan my life around a month in advance.

I'm still kinda disappointed that I could never really get into The Vaselines as much as I thought I would.

So... The Way of the Vaselines is not the only recorded content out there...
This is coming out next month:

Quote:
The Vaselines have long been celebrated by musicians and indie rock enthusiasts across the globe, including superfan Kurt Cobain, while remaining underappreciated by the mainstream. "Enter The Vaselines" is the definitive triple LP/double CD collection. Includes new mixes and re-mastered versions of material previously available on "The Way Of The Vaselines", plus never-before-heard demos, and live recordings from 1986 in Bristol and 1988 in London.

TRACK LISTING
Disc: 1
1. Son of a Gun
2. Rory Rides Me Raw
3. You Think You're a Man
4. Dying For It
5. Molly's Lips
6. Teenage Superstars
7. Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam
8. Sex Sux (Amen)
9. Slushy
10. Monsterpussy
11. Bitch
12. No Hope
13. Oliver Twisted
14. The Day I was a Horse
15. Dum Dum
16. Hairy
17. Lovecraft
18. Dying For It (The Blues)
19. Let's Get Ugly

Disc: 2
1. Son of a Gun (Demo)
2. Rosary Job (Demo)
3. Red Poppy (Demo)
4. Son of a Gun (Live in Bristol)
5. Rosary Job (Live in Bristol)
6. Red Poppy (Live in Bristol)
7. Rory Rides Me Raw (Live in Bristol)
8. You Think You're a Man (Live in Bristol)
9. Dying For It (Live in London)
10. Monster Pussy (Live in London)
11. Let's Get Ugly (Live in London)
12. Molly's Lips (Live in London)
13. The Day I Was a Horse (Live in London)
14. The Day I Was a Horse (Again) (Live in London)
15. Sex Sux (Amen) (Live in London)
16. I Didn't Know I Love You Until I Saw You Rock'n'Roll (Live in London)
17. Teenage Superstars (Live in London)

Disc one is just The Way of..., but if disc 2 is ever available separately, I would consider buying it. Or, I would certainly DL those demos of the songs that I haven't heard before (just 3 songs, but whatever).

I don't think this is 'out there' yet so I'm going to give you a wee tip off, The Vaselines are recording an album of new material for release 2010. New band includes Stevie Jackson of Belle & Sebastian and drummer Michael McGaughrin of fellow Glasgow band 1990s.

That is all.

this was the lineup they toured with in the US this past year. stevie's guitar-playing really added to them quite well. i'm glad he's sticking around, as long as he's still with belle & sebastian whenever they do something again.
