The Vaselines

I recently bought way of the Vaselines and have been liking it alot so far. They are pretty much the perfect lo fi pop band. Does anyone else here listen to them?

I love that collection.
I agree that they are pretty much the perfect lo-fi pop band.
Although, sometimes the tinniness of the production starts to grate. Still, the songs are wonderful.

yeah, that's a pretty good disc. i play "son of a gun" at dj gigs sometimes. it always gets one or two people to come over and say how much they like the vaselines.

I love it. I'm just disappointed that the one disc is the extent of all their recordings.

well, i don't have a regular gig. and i haven't done anything in the last few months since getting a real job, but i was dj'ing at smartbar last year occasionally. and it's closed for renovations now, so i don't know when i might be there again. there's a possibility to do something at darkroom, but it's not fixed yet.

Eugene Kelly has been active post Vaselines

His bands:

Captain America
BMX Bandits (I think he was in them, but am too lazy to double check)
Eugenius

He also released a solo album earlier this year. I made a thread asking if anyone had heard it a few months ago which got no replies. Supposedly its more pop oriented along the lines of Teenage Fanclub, etc. I'll probably end up picking it up at some point.

I have the Older faster e.p which is excellent. Also have captain america e.p somewhere.

Dont think he was in bmx bandits but could be wrong.

If i can find the cd i could zip something up........

Kelly was briefly in the band in the early 90's and appears on the 1991 Star Wars album. He left though when he formed the Captain America band.

I ended up picking up that solo album that i referenced above. Its pretty good if you're a big fan of scottish pop and completely unessential if you're not.

I'm interested in this show and hope it doesn't sell out quickly. I'd like to go but I'm not sure its something I'd try to plan my life around a month in advance.

I don't think this is 'out there' yet so I'm going to give you a wee tip off, The Vaselines are recording an album of new material for release 2010. New band includes Stevie Jackson of Belle & Sebastian and drummer Michael McGaughrin of fellow Glasgow band 1990s.

this was the lineup they toured with in the US this past year. stevie's guitar-playing really added to them quite well. i'm glad he's sticking around, as long as he's still with belle & sebastian whenever they do something again.
