i am not expecting some kind of a summit, no. however...
the hosts you guys are mentioning from previous years, i haven't seen very much of, but billy crystal, steve martin, and johnny carson are comdeians who do a broad range of work. jon stewart is there because of his left-leaning political humor. period. as a stand-up comic, i don't think too much of him. as a matter of fact, when i was in college he came to do his act, and less than 20 people showed up to see him, i shit you not.
that being the case, i absolutely do think it's appropriate to include that kind of humor at that ridiculous award show. why isn't it? why is it out of bounds to joke about real issues? it's a goddamn ceremory to heap accolades on people who are very well compensaed with both cash and recognision for their jobs. what's the difference if it offends some dipshit somewhere? it is also honoring a number of films that are offensive to people who don't agree with jon stewart's politics anyway.
to my mind, jon stewart is a pussy who preaches to the choir, but look how tame he is when there are people who don't already agree with him listening in. he is a company boy. i don't really care one way or the other, but let's not all pretend that we were entertained in any way by that lame telecast.
Dude do you have any idea how TV/advertising works? It's that "dipshit somewhere" that controls EVERYTHING; not only on television but in most everything else.
I'm not pretending. I promise I really was entertained. Was it the best thing I've ever seen on TV? Probably not. Did I laugh? Yes.
