I know there's a couple of fans on here. Check it out: I just picked up the second and third of the recently-released remasters of the first three albums and am really let down. The music is great - so glad to hear these again after way too many years of them being stuck in the "should never have traded in" list in the back of my mind. But the remastering . . . wow, this is terrible. These things sound awful. I'm not the kind of listener that will rip on something simply because it doesn't sound exactly like it did on the original, because I know there are some who do that. That's not the case here - these sound like someone simply cranked up the EQ until clipping occured, and then didn't listen to the results before pressing up the discs. They sound like someone overcompensating in an effort to try and get them to sound like today's over-processed, overly loud metal. What a shame.

And then there's the bonus tracks . . . yikes. There's a few live tracks on each disc and these things are dire. They're nothing more than shoddy audience-recorded bootlegs. My jaw actually dropped when I got to them - I couldn't believe that these are being passed off as "bonus" tracks. These albums would have been much better off with no bonus tracks if this was all they had to offer - they leave a very bad taste in the mouth after the already disappointing sound quality.

I've just placed orders for used copies of the originals of all 5 albums (yes, even the retaliatory "let us out of our contract" Chill Pill - why not, it only cost a penny? The only one that cost more than $2.50 was Last Decade Dead Century at $7.50.) I'm anxious to hear the originals and will probably dump the remasters if my memory really is correct - that the originals didn't sound anywhere near this awful. If it turns out to be not the case, eh, oh well. I doubt I'm wrong, however.

The re-masters were more about getting them back in print then anything else...

I guess you gotta remaster and throw bonus stuff on there to get the old fans to re buy them as well...

I'm actually frieds with Kory Clarke and have been at his house and he has played me unreleased tracks from the LDDC days. I kow he had lost alot of material from his moving over the years. Big shame.

If anything, they should have broke up the tracks from the 'Odds and Ends' release, and put those n the end of these cd's.

Later in the year in addition to the last two re-releases, there will be a DVD release.....That is gonna be potentially huge. He pulled out a gigantic box of video's.. Most of them pro-shot.

At one point he was going to let me put out the re-issues, but I couldnt get any of the people over at Geffen to talk seriously with me.

We still may do something together though.

In the mean time, check out Kory's new band, DIRTY RIG . www.dirtyrig.com or www.myspace.com/dirtyrig I introduced him to those guys. my buddy started the band...

Sometimes I'm surprised when a fringe band gets a release. A band like these guys? That's just odd.

Where's those Saigon Kick remasters?

In all seriousness though, this did in fact jog my memory, and made me a big antsy to hear some of their stuff again.

God, i love you guys..

Saigon Kick was another favorite band of mine.
I talk to Jason from time to time on IM, and actually spoke with Matt (original singer last night).

I guess the original records are out of print...Hmmmm, I gotta ask about that.

At my old label, Mayhem, we put out thier 'Greatst Hits' (Jaon titled the record, Greatest Mrs. - no laughing) CD. I was project coordinator for it....Chose the track listing and some of the photo's.

Yeah obner!

I never run into them. NEVER. Otherwise I would own more than I do.

Let me know which ones you lack. I could probably find them for you blindfolded.

I didn't know you used to work at Mayhem, NF.

I snagged 2 Warrior Soul albums outta the 99 cent bin ( new, not used ) a few years ago. I only kept "...New Republic".

That sucks that the reissues blow so bad.

They're not horrible...

I just don't think they needed to be remastered at all. They originals still held up in my book.

Who here has a copy of 'Greatest Mrs.' by Saigon Kick, btw?? Fun little tidbit that we werent really alowed to talk about when the cd came out...stupid decision as it might have helped it sell some more copies.

A big ol' "rad" to all of that! I just wish the remasters had been better. They might not see great sales when word gets out about the quality as people scramble to get the old copies. Any idea why really sub-par audience bootlegs were chosen for the bonus tracks? Doesn't Kory have anything officially recorded to offer instead?

I'd love to check the site out, but it came up blocked by Websense for being the category "sex"! :?:

And, no, I don't see used Warrior Soul much anymore. I haven't seen anything locally for quite a while. Still dirt-cheap on Amazon and Half.com, however.

And wow, I'm stunned to see mentions of Saigon Kick! I saw them opening for King's X back in . . . 1996? . . . Extremely impressive show. The guitarist was fascinating to watch. When he played that snakey part in "Water," he looked like he was channelling the sound from some long-gone spirit. Same situation as WS - check Amazon and Half.com if you want 'em.

Like i had mentioned, Kory played me several songs that would have been ideal for these re-release..Better then the subpar live tracks, from bootlegs I already own.

I guess most of the best material was released on the 'odds & ends' b-sides record that Mayhem put out......i would have done a better job.

as for Saigon, if you can get a hold of 'Greatest Mrs.', when we were compiling the layout of the booklet, Jason Beiler pulled out an article that a high school kind had written of one of their shows back in Florida. We put a portion of the article in the booklet...The high school student who wrote the review and was a big Saigon fan was Brian Warner, who we call Marilyn Manson these days.....They were friends at the time, and Jason didnt want to use that crutch as an excuse to sell records...kind of understandable, but it should have been done...
