Coding for the "right" and the Right. We invoke the talking points and critical analysis is trumped by the true believers. Where is Eric Hoffer when you need him....

We spend huge amounts of money for corporate subsidy, military waste, bridges in Alaska which go nowhere. This "let's stop them from taxing and spending" conservative administration has spent more, in debt, than ever in history.

The question is not whether we spend, it's what is accomplished by the spending.

And "college is available to all" comment above... surely you are high.

Oh believe me, I'm sure I hate those programs more than you do.

I sometimes wonder if libs think that a dollar left in the hands of a private citizen is going to get sewn into their mattress where it can't possibly do any good unless freed by taxes to be spent more wisely by govt bureaucrats.

If we want to solve "the hunger problem," why don't we just pass a law requiring anyone above a certain income or wealth level to have with them at all times a cooler full of delicious ham sandwichs which they are required to share with anyone who appears to be hungry. It couldn't be less effective than the tax & spend programs in effect or being pushed by libs.

LIBS LIKE GEORGE BUSH?!?

We agree harry, and MAYBE, if we could communicate to people "at the arbors and the forks of the creeks," we could get that message accross.

The problem with this "against your economic interest" argument is that everywhere you look there is money and progress. (Well, maybe not you, but you know...)

"Its sad to see the world agree that they'd rather see their faces filled with fries" I get that, but you know, find a new way of saying that "YOU ARE VOTING AGAINST YOUR ECONOMIC INTEREST" the reason people hate Democrats is that the PERCEPTION is of people who think they are smarter than you telling you what to do.

The New Deal is over, The Great society is over, the Lib-Lab coalition is OVER!! And cannot be put together again.

The beauty of this whole thing is that the Repubs had a plan and put into action, and instead of really fighting them, or coming up with our plan we start saying things like "It was better when we were in power." Well, for who motherfucker?!

Sorry, but the problem with generals and politicians is they always want to fight the last war. Well, Rommel, you magnificent bastard, I read your book. And I can think of a lot of ways to make a Democratic comeback simpler, but it doesn't really involve crying about how much simpler things were when daddy had a union job and momma was a schoolteacher.

I wouldnt classify a joint estate with a max limit of 5 million dollars as "big business" necessarily.

As for their kids, maybe they had something to do with helping the family to gain the wealth, or maybe the parents instead of staying in their regular shitty jobs and complaining about "the man" actually took some chances to make a better life for their family, paying their dues (and taxes) along the way.

I'd also like to point out that this bill actually has a higher tax on very large estates and is just the House version.

I'm for cutting all taxes and all spending across the board. Start with, say, 15-20% spending cuts on every single thing the government spends money on.

Creativity is fomented by limited resources, and unfortunately the government has virtually unlimited resources.

what they have, is the unchecked ability to continue to borrow money.

In business, it doesnt work like that: the bank will cut your ass off.

So what happens when we either get cut off (by the Chinese or whomever) and the loans start coming due?

KONICHIWA, BITCHES!!

I have yet to figure out why a new isolationism hasn't crept up on us...not that I am for that (aside from the abject hatred to all foreigners) but I would think somebody could exploit that.

Oh, and if conservatives were actually conservative, I might be one of them as well, but they aren't, they just want THEIR cronies to get the money, instead of niggers.

Buffett calls for retention of estate tax

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Billionaire Warren Buffett on Monday called for U.S. lawmakers to retain the estate tax, after announcing plans to leave more than $37 billion of his own fortune to charity, not his children.

Buffett spoke after agreeing to sign over roughly $30.7 billion of his $44 billion fortune to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, run by the Microsoft Corp. chairman and his wife, and another $6.4 billion to foundations on behalf of his late wife Susan and his children.

"I would hate to see the estate tax gutted," Buffett said at a Manhattan news conference with the Gateses about his donation.

"It's a very equitable tax," Buffett said. "It's in keeping with the idea of equality of opportunity in this country, not giving incredible head starts to certain people who were very selective about the womb from which they emerged."

Buffett, the second richest man in the world, after Bill Gates, spoke less than three weeks after the U.S. Senate fell three votes short of advancing a bill backed by President George W. Bush that would permanently repeal estate taxes.
