Recap:

Best Band - Mogwai. I was right up the front near the speaker stacks and even with a finger in each ear, was fucking blown away. The loudest thing i've ever experienced. The drums were tickling my internal organs.

Honorable mention:

Tv On The Radio.
Simply fucking awesome.
You Am I. they do balls out rock better than anyone, period. The duet with Tex Perkins was pretty damn good. That man can scream louder than anything.
Sonic Youth. Good, but no Teenage Riot and too many Kim songs.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Aside from the bogans on ecstasy (i swear i pushed this one guy to the ground and told him to fuck off about ten times but he kept getting up and dancing even closer to me), it was a good show. Not loud enough though. Karen O is hottttt.
Gerling. Consistantly danceworthy.

Brian Wilson was Brian Wilson. Old and tired, yet hanging in there. PLayed all the really really old Beach Boys tunes, i would've liked some of their later stuff, but hey, he's Brian WIlson he can do whatever the fuck he wants.

There was a '???' on the schedule and the surprise act was said to be a big international act. It was the fucking Vines. Biggest. Let Down. Ever.

The exact same thing happened to me on Thursday when I saw them at the Enmore! During the support band (Van She) they were headbanging and thrashing all over the place and subjecting me to their foul-smelling hair. An ever-widening circle formed around them.

I thought we'd lost them for when YYYs came on, but halfway through when people were jumping around they ended up close again. Gross.

Also seen at this show - old dude (late 40s at least) with girlfriend 20 years younger being that guy - trying to be cool and dancing along and pretty much dry humping his girlfriend right in front of everyone. At least they disappeared by the time I got back from the bar for YYYs.

This is a large part of the reason why I don't like seeing bands in venues larger than The Metro (RIP)

And, the bassist from Van She was sporting the most awesomely hilarious pair of tights, without anything over the top, that I have ever witnessed

Oh, and I'm insanely jealous. Sounds like it was great since I would have seen all those bands too. I heard on the radio there was mud everywhere though.

Did you end up catching Dungen? They were on pretty early weren't they?

And yeah, Gerling are pretty much the greatest festival act going around, especially when you want a bit of a late-afternoon dance. At least, except when there's bogan metalhead kids waiting for whatever shit band was on after them at the BDO this year thinking it would be cool to slamdance right down the front of the D barrier. Just fuck off already and let me enjoy them
