Which is more impressive:

Beating the Colts?

OR

Losing to the Dolphins?

You are 100% correct. Fortunately, Marty ALWAYS gets in the way.

Beating the Colts is not very impressive at all. They should've lost 2 games prior to the Cowboys game.

The Dolphins are going to finish 9-7. I don't see what's so bad about losing to them.

talk about the bears to me Monday after their loss to NE. Brady and his teammates were not excited with their loss to the Colts (obviously) and I guarantee you they will do everything in their power to keep from getting a fourth loss.

Also, let's not forget that Chicago was beat by who? Oh yeah. Miami. And they didn't just lose that game, they got embarrassed. Plus, they should be ashamed of a 10-0 win over NYJ as well.

which is better

a 10-0 road victory over a team

or a home loss to the same team

If the Bears should be ashamed of a 10-0 win at the Meadowlands how should the Patriots feel about giving the Jets a win a Foxboro

hmmm

The Bears obviously lose sunday, imo.

btw, for those that do not know: Miami is 5-6 and playing as well as anyone has the last 4 weeks, including your Cowboys.

Good point, except I don't run my mouth about the Patriots every time they get a first down. :)

I think you are painting with a broad brush

All I want from the Bears this year is a playoff win and a Conference Championship appearance. By no stretch of the imagination do I think they are head and shoulders above the rest of the NFC, let alone the Chargers or the Patriots.

The NFC is still pretty weak and the Bears and about 5 other teams are right there at the top of it.

I certainly like the Bears chances in january way better than any AFC WC that's going into SD the first round of the playoffs, though

and also, the Bears haven't won a playoff game in forever, and the last two times they've been the 2 seed with a bye and gotten embarrassed at home (Eagles in 01, Panthers in 05). The fact that they are even 9-1 (I had them at 10-6 or 11-5, winning the North and hosting a first round game) is pretty amazing.

Through his first 17 NFL starts Grossman is 13-4. He's wildly inconsistent at times, but has shown better instincts than any QB we've had in a long time. I like the Bears a lot more next year

It's funny because I think I even said to Bloor "wait till Grossman gets healthy" and I got laughed at then. Now, I'm all about small steps because I think this is a process, not a win-now type of thing.

Our whole O-line is locked up for the next three years, for example.

Keep in mind we were running out there Orton and Krenzel for christ's skae.

I have no problems with the Bears. Just Bears fans. :)

I think the Bears have a great team this year and my discussion of the patriots is more just because I want to see them win and the bears fans shut the hell up for a bit. haha

I get sick of it myself, because every year this shit happens people scramble to draw parallels to 85 and I'm surrounded by Grabowskis everywhere I look screaming "SUPER BEARSSSSSSS SUPER BOWLLLL!"

The shit is annoying as fuck sometimes

Isn't Orton 10-0 or 10-1 as a starter? Compares favorably to Rex Grossman.

Sometimes, I suppose, you just have to be "smart" enough to know you're too "dumb" to win it on your own.

BRING BACK ORTON! NECK-BEARDS OF THE WORLD, UNITE!

Spade, no offense, but everyone hsould every football related post by you on the Pay-No-Mind-List. The above statements means you know nothing about the NFL, or are being disingenuous.

In the NFL, you are your record, and its win now, or don't win at all. You should know that considering the Bears made the playoffs in '01, and then didn't do it again until '05. Its do it big now, or don't do it at all.

Injuries, trades and the free agency have changed the nature of the game. Adapt or die.

Yeah, I agree with the Loog here. Performance in past years have virtually no effect on what is going on right now in the current season. Sometimes it even has little bearing on what happened just 6-8 games ago as evidenced by teams such as the Chargers, Cowboys, and Dolphins who are catching fire now.

Loog, you're going way overboard.

Teams like the Eagles (when McNabb is not hurt), the Bucs of 2000-2003, the Panthers of the last few seasons, the Broncos, the Colts and especially the Patriots have had consistently winning teams for several seasons in a row. I'm not talking about doing this for 7-8-9 years, I'm talking about having a 3-4 year plan. I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. The Broncos, for example, follow the exact model I envision for the Bears - lock up a great o-line and it doesn't matter who you throw back there.

The only player the Bears can lose on defense next year is Briggs, and it's not even a given he will walk. The whole o-line is back. Obviously the qb is back and so are both running backs. Our special teams guys are all young and are receivers are young and talented except for Moose, who will be in his third year of I think a 5 year deal.

The fact of the matter is that Grossman needs more games under his belt to mature. Take a look at Peyton Manning's first 16 starts and tell the Colts were in a desperation "win-now" mentality. Or Eli Manning for that manner. You develop a young qb over several seasons if you expect to field a winner. It's really that simple.

He's still too inexperienced to be consistently effective.

Also, even though the NFL has more parity than any other league, there are 4-5 teams that are consistent winners (the ones I mentioned), and there are 4-5 teams you can expect to suck every year (Lions, Cardinals, Browns, Texans etc.)

There is something to be said for that, in my opinion.

Take a look at the Bucs? Yep, they locked up their D, won without an offense, then tried to build the offense for longevity. Then the defense up and got old on them, and they are also-rans.

Also, 2 years ago, Delhomme was the QB of the future. In 2 years, he will be selling insurance, or be the local channel 9 commentator on the "Bank of America Post Game Panthers Report."

The Broncos -- yep, you can throw anyone back there and win, except for the guy they got.

The Steelers were built for the long term, but that term has ended.

If they don't win this year (and I will acceed that they have a much bigger chance than I ever would have given them) you are gonna be kicking yourself for the next few years when Rex G is playing golf in Orlando, and selling Chardonnay for National Wine Company.

Hahah. Bears fans.

FAVRE WON HIS SUPER BOWL IN SEASON FIVE. (Season six, overall. But one snap for a Jerry Glanville coached team doesn't count.)

Grossman is on season four (determined by when he turned pro... he's on season two by number of games for which he was healthy).

GOOD LUCK GETTING A LOMBARDI TROPHY -- note: not an Halas Trophy -- NEXT YEAR.

Hahah.

Like I said, it's 4 year plan. Like all the teams you mentioned. It would be one thing if we had an aging star running back (like we did in the 80s) or several key FAs coming up, but we don't. We are in season two of that plan, and we are going to have the best record in the NFC by a country mile this season.

I don't know how anyone cannot term what the Bears have done organizationally the last two seasons as anything but successful. I think the next season and the one after that they will also be in a position to compete for a super bowl. I have not seen enough from Grossman to believe he is ready to compete for a super bowl this season.

Having 60 starts is significantly different than having 17 starts, and the Packers never even came close to fielding the kind of defense the Bears have now. The teams couldn't have been more different.

It's more comparable to the Ravens than anything else. Solid running game, great defense, hide the quarterback and his mistakes.

Point taken, Spade. I will admit I went a bit bucky, because maybe I didn't quite get what you meant. I will say that if I were the coaching staff, I wouldn't be pushing for a "4 year plan" in the locker room, I would be saying "This is our year, we haven't come this far to lose, Super Bowl or bust!"

But I can see how, as a fan, you are saying, "If they don't win it this year, its NOT the end of teh world, we are set up to compete for a few years."

I will also say, Watch Out for Them Cowboys!!
(The Boys looked pretty fucking good yesterday, and, in my eyes, for the first time in the Parcells Era, we look to be actually on track.)
