Through his first 17 NFL starts Grossman is 13-4. He's wildly inconsistent at times, but has shown better instincts than any QB we've had in a long time. I like the Bears a lot more next year
It's funny because I think I even said to Bloor "wait till Grossman gets healthy" and I got laughed at then. Now, I'm all about small steps because I think this is a process, not a win-now type of thing.
Our whole O-line is locked up for the next three years, for example.
Spade, no offense, but everyone hsould every football related post by you on the Pay-No-Mind-List. The above statements means you know nothing about the NFL, or are being disingenuous.
In the NFL, you are your record, and its win now, or don't win at all. You should know that considering the Bears made the playoffs in '01, and then didn't do it again until '05. Its do it big now, or don't do it at all.
Injuries, trades and the free agency have changed the nature of the game. Adapt or die.
Loog, you're going way overboard.
Teams like the Eagles (when McNabb is not hurt), the Bucs of 2000-2003, the Panthers of the last few seasons, the Broncos, the Colts and especially the Patriots have had consistently winning teams for several seasons in a row. I'm not talking about doing this for 7-8-9 years, I'm talking about having a 3-4 year plan. I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. The Broncos, for example, follow the exact model I envision for the Bears - lock up a great o-line and it doesn't matter who you throw back there.
The only player the Bears can lose on defense next year is Briggs, and it's not even a given he will walk. The whole o-line is back. Obviously the qb is back and so are both running backs. Our special teams guys are all young and are receivers are young and talented except for Moose, who will be in his third year of I think a 5 year deal.
The fact of the matter is that Grossman needs more games under his belt to mature. Take a look at Peyton Manning's first 16 starts and tell the Colts were in a desperation "win-now" mentality. Or Eli Manning for that manner. You develop a young qb over several seasons if you expect to field a winner. It's really that simple.
He's still too inexperienced to be consistently effective.
