Jeff Kent? Seriously, dude. You are an advocate for the Hall of Very Good, not the Hall of Fame.

I don't think any of you grasped my Potter Stewart reference, but it means no to guys like Jeff Kent.

Alomar was a guy that should have been a first ballot guy, and then, shit the bed. Like Junior.

Junior? Oh, you mean Griffey. I thought you meant Sandy Alomar and I thought you went crazy.

Crazier.

Jeff Kent in the Hall? NO WAY. I'd take Biggo anyday of the week over that douche. Not sure bout Alomar either. Close, but probably not. I think Glavine will finish with 300 wins and make it moot. Won't care either way if he gets in.How does Scott Brosius even make it on the ballot?

Just to put my thoughts down, in case anyone cares:

Next year's ballot, categorized by me:

In: Rich Gossage
Borderline: Bert Blyleven, Tim Raines
Sorry, but no: Harold Baines, Andre Dawson, Tommy John, David Justice, Don Mattingly, Jack Morris, Dale Murphy, Robb Nen, Jim Rice, Lee Smith, Alan Trammell
Why are you still on the ballot: Dave Concepcion, Dave Parker
One and out: Brady Anderson, Andy Benes, Delino Deshields, Shawon Dunston, Chuck Finley, Travis Fryman, Chuck Knoblauch, Mike Morgan, Greg Swindell, Randy Velarde, Mark Wohlers

I don't think he should be in, but I'm surprised how little support Trammell has gotten.
I left off McGwire on purpose.

2009-2012 ballot:

In: Rickey Henderson
Borderline: Roberto Alomar, Jeff Bagwell, Edgar Martinez, Sammy Sosa, Larry Walker
Sorry, but no: Kevin Brown, David Cone, Juan Gonzalez, Mark Grace, Barry Larkin, Kenny Lofton, Fred McGriff, John Olerud, Rafael Palmeiro
One and out: Wilson Alvarez, Kevin Appier, Steve Avery, Carlos Baerga, Rod Beck, Jay Bell, Bret Boone, Mike Bordick, John Burkett, Ellis Burks, Royce Clayton, John Franco, Andres Galarraga, Ron Gant, Marquis Grissom, Mike Hampton, Pat Hentgen, Mike Jackson, Eric Karros, Al Leiter, Tino Martinez, Dan Miceli, Raul Mondesi, Bill Mueller, Denny Neagle, Hideo Nomo, Dean Palmer, Troy Percival, Dan Plesac, Shane Reynolds, Ricardo Rincon, Tim Salmon, Benito Santiago, JT Snow, Russ Springer, So Taguchi, Ugueth Urbina, Greg Vaughn, Mo Vaughn, Robin Ventura, Matt Williams, Mike Williams, Tim Worrell, Todd Zeile

Current players age 36 or older:

In: Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Tom Glavine, Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux, Mike Piazza, Mariano Rivera
Borderline: Craig Biggio, Ken Griffey Jr., Trevor Hoffman, Gary Sheffield, John Smoltz
Sorry, but no: Jim Edmonds, Jason Giambi, Jeff Kent, Jamie Moyer, Mike Mussina, Curt Schilling, Frank Thomas, Jim Thome
One and out: Paul Byrd, Jeff Cirillo, Jeff Conine, Craig Counsell, Damion Easley, Alan Embree, Julio Franco, Luis Gonzalez, Tom Gordon, Mark Grudzielanek, Scott Hatteberg, Orlando Hernandez, Roberto Hernandez, Todd Jones, Jon Lieber, Javy Lopez, Jose Mesa, Damian Miller, Mike Myers, Darren Oliver, Kenny Rogers, Reggie Sanders, Mike Stanton, Mike Timlin, Jose Valentin, Tim Wakefield, Woody Williams

Many of these assignments were made totally off-the-cuff without much thought at all, so don't read too much into them.

I would move E Martinez and Larry Walker to "Sorry but no" but other than that, we pretty much agree.

I pretty much agree; Nice work on putting that together, shmoo. I was considering a separate thread for "current players who you think will be in the HoF"

Really, no on Barry Larkin? I haven't looked at the numbers but I've always thought that he was sorely underrated, as he pretty much owned the ss position after the Wiz retired.

Not so. After 3 more years if he continues to play decent .280 20HR 80RBI he'll end up with stats like these

2600+ Hits 400+HR 1600+ RBI 1300+Runs
1 MVP (4 times in top 10)

I'll admit that he's an average defender but he already is and will further solidify being the best offense second baseman in baseball history. All of those numbers would be better than Sandberg (Sandberg has the defensive edge obviously)

And for Loogar: he's played above his career averages in the postseason...even bringing his homerun per at bat ratio for 1 every 21.9 AB in the regular season to 1 every 14 in the post season. He brought the heroics to Houston.

If he ends up with 400HR's i think that makes him a viable HOF. Writers don't like him so i think it will take awhile.

Call me crazy but I dont think Ozzie Smith is a Hall of Famer.

Larkin is an interesting case. He'll probably make it in eventually due to the fact that he was probably the best NL shortstop for a lot of years. It'd be nice if he at least had 1,000 RBI's.

Larkin, Edgar, Walker, Frank Thomas, and Kenny Lofton were the ones I had the hardest time deciding where to put between "borderline" and "sorry but no". Don't know if I made the right choices. I ultimately discounted Thomas' performance because of his DH-ness, but I guess I didn't do the same for Edgar. Hmmm.

Have you ever seen the film The Scout with Brendan Frazier? He's pitching in the WS for the Yankees and there's two outs in the bottom of the ninth and he has a 26 strikeout perfect game and who's coming up to bat against him but "Ozzie Smith himself". It was hilarious. First, if it's the 27th batter hasn't he faced Ozzie twice before? And secondly, it's Ozzie Smith. Fearsome.

Can you rate Larkin as a HoFer and not Robbie Alomar?

Ozzie is a Hall of Famer, he was one of those dudes who was bigger than his stats.

I don't see any way that A-Rod can NOT be a HOFer. I don't like the guy, but jeeze.

I'm talking about who I think should get in, not who will. There's plenty of players already in who I wouldn't have put there.

Yeah, that was a pretty strong statement, Kiev. It's early, but A-Rod is looking like a first-balloter.

I think Albert Belle had a legit case to stay on the ballot longer than one time (he was awesome for 10+ years)

In: Rickey Henderson

I think Frank Thomas is a HOF

He'll end up in the top 15 in HR's, top 20 in RBI..he's already 11th in OPS, 2 MVPS and 9 times in top 10 of MVP, 1 batting title and 8 times in top 10 for batting title.

Obviosuly a crap defender and mostly DH now. He was dominant and still is somewhat offensively.

Yeah, as I said above, he's one I had trouble deciding between "sorry but no" and borderline.
