I'll take Option B there, derris, mostly because I'd favor the respect / longevity / lower odds of winding up being desperate enough to do reality tv in 20 years. Either would be fun though.

Question:

Would you rather have a band like Ratt's career where you are kings of LA for a few years and for a couple or years, one of the biggest bands in the world. Selling a few million records and then fading into obscurity?

Or

Would you rather have a middle of the road indie band's career that never goes Platinum or even Gold but each record sells about 30-50,000 units and you have massive critical acclaim? You have an okay life and get by on a meager budget for the next 20 years.

i would definitely take option B. option A would be crazy - always touring, press, constant pressure about the future, etc.

despite initial worries about money, any band who moves units in that 30k+ neighborhood is probably landing deals for their music to be used in advertising or movies and whatnot. that can net a cool sum of money, especially in an ad for a large corporation. and even though a small rabid fanbase would develop, there wouldn't be constant pressure for the next thing all the time because there'd be an album release, tour, and then fade into regular life while taking time off and preparing for new material.

Nah, I'm taking Option A. Most of us lead ok lives & make do with a meager budget as it is. Must be ridiculous to be able to name whatever you want & get it...even if it only lasts for a few years. Stuff that dreams are made of.

Thanks Gordo. I knew some folks would be too sensible with that question

Obviously we would all want the Rolling Stones, REM, U2, career arc but that's not the question.

The part of me that remembers 1979 would like them not to suck. The rest of me who lives in 2007 knows that's virtually impossible given the man Sting has mutated into.

I probably won't watch it anyway.
