when i'm dj'ing drum and bass/idm on a club system, clarity is incredibly important. yeah, the needle scratch is great and "authentic", but at that point that's the last thing i'm looking for.
as far as mixing goes, that's what the dj is there for...to create an atmosphere. if you don't mix and blend, what are you doing up there?

plus dance music is made digitally, so putting it on wax does nothing to improve the sound.
i don't mix or beat match, but i make the night go smooth through selection and pacing. and people complain w hen i'm not there, which makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and makes me think that most people don't care about scratching or beat matching, they just want to hear good songs. (this is for hip hop, not for dance music which is a differnt ball game)
