Make that Job or Song of Solomon. 8)

I listen to the music that I like. I don't think about reconciling it with my beliefs. Sure, I'm much happier when something comes along that I can identify with through both (e.g., Pedro the Lion, Sufjan Stevens). I won't, however, just toss it unless it downright offends me (like aero). Spiritually uplifting and religious are not the same. Listening to a certain artists lyrics do not interfere with or affect my own beliefs, so it's generally not a problem for me.

I don't take music that seriously though I love it so. I also am not one of those people who feels that everyone has to agree with me about God. Good music is good music!

As evidenced by your failure to successfuly obtain that ever-elusive box of Trix after decades of trying.

I doubt it. Most people don't consider the meaning too much, unless it is ham-handed like Marilyn Manson.

Prime example? Haven't you heard the tale of the couple who plays Pearl Jam's "Better Man" at their wedding reception. I've heard it from dozens of people.

Possibly my favorite either the stripper who disrobed while AC/DC's "The Jack" was playing, or the guy who serenaded his girlfriend with a karaoke rendition of The Righteous Brothers "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" before proposing to her at a restaurant in the mall.

So unless it's Deicide some shit like that, most people don't listen. I'm guilty from time to time as well. For instance, I thought that Ogden Edsl's "Kinko the Clown" was about birthday parties and balloon animals.

Also, I dislike patriotic music for the most part, but Ray Charles doing some "America the Beautiful" stops me dead in my tracks.

Could just be truth-in-advertising. Not that anything even remotely similar to penetration would ever occur in the champagne room.

My two cents,

When I was a Christian in the early 90s, I listened to NIN. I can't say that things he said never bothered me. But I listened to him because he is good at what he does, and I saw him as someone who was genuinely honest with what was going on inside his head. But yeah, "You're God is dead and no one cares" used to get to me. But it actually made me want to know why he thinks that way. Of course, these are non-issues with me now as I consider myself to be more on the agnostic side of things.

To those who think that the only genuine Christian artists that exist are David Bazaan, Sufjan Stevens, Bono, Jeremy Enigk, or R Kelly - I can't fault you for being misinformed. But if you say something like "all (or 99.9%) of Christian music sucks" I would think you could at least know what Christian music is and be able to back it up with something other than a grocery list of what sells in CCM. Popular CCM will always, for the most part, suck (kinda like mainstream music if you think about it). The niche market for Christian type artists is a lot larger than you think it is and extends well beyond POD, Switchfoot, and Amy Grant. Not all artists who have Christian beliefs want to save you, ban gay marriage, vote for Bush, or push an agenda (and I can provide authentic manifestations of evidence that back this up).

Here is a semi-successful indie label ran by the ex-bassist for Starflyer 59 that primarily sells music done by Christian artists. This label had limited Christian market distribtution in the late 90s but now has none whatsoever. Is this what you think about when you think "Christian artist?" http://www.velvetbluemusic.com/products.html
Or do you think more along the lines of this?----> http://www.forefrontrecords.com/

By the way, I was kidding about R Kelly. :wanker:

Well I guess Marilyn Manson could very well become Republican 20 years from now. The shock rockers of the 70s such as Alice Cooper and Gene Simmons voted for Bush.
