I think this is one of the bands I would appreciate more if I had been around when they were still big. I much prefer Guns N Roses.

Sorry Dale: I love the Maiden, but they can't even hold the jock of G'N'R.

i dunno. i'm not the biggest maiden fan but g'n'r only has one great album while maiden has been pretty consistent overall and have never really become an embarrassment.

Maiden and GnR don't have a whole lot in common musically.

Yeah, but they are of the same era and are the same general type of music. Also, I'd disagree that Guns N Roses only had one great album. I love both Illusion albums, and the Spaghetti Incident, if nothing else, proves that they had great taste.

And Dalen, you may be the only 35+ year old who still commonly uses "gay" and "fag" as insults. Even the most dimwitted fucks I know stopped that at about 16. It's no surprise you haven't been able to get married despite being 10+ years past the age that most people get around to that.

Now that I think about it, I always think it's weird how much shit the Illusion albums get. Maybe it's because I've been listening to them literally since I was a little kid (my parents played them to no end when they came out), but even if I was hearing them for the first time now, I think I'd consider both of them classics. Yeah, they're overblown, bloated, etc., but even the "lesser" songs are really good in my opinion.

Except for My World. That's the biggest piece of shit ever put to tape.

Use Your Illusion could've been condensed into 1 great album.

The Spaghetti Incident = good taste, shitty album.

How old are you? "Little kid" to me equals about 6. Just curious, it helps get a frame of reference.

Anyway, yeah, they're better albums than most people want to give them credit for being, but they should have been condensed to one album and the rest released as a separate, lesser album or just b-sides. Which songs, I don't know at the moment, I haven't listened to either in a long time. Neither even remotely approach Appetite in monumentalness, however, and while that album is incredible, the strength of the majority of Maiden's catalog outweighs that one album. Maiden is one bad-ass band - very little crap in that catalog, and what little there is happened in the decade of the 90s. They have probably the greatest 5-album stretch that I know of (Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, Powerslave, Somewhere In Time, and Seventh Son. I only leave out Live After Death because it's live, not because it's not kick-ass.) You could even make an argument to throw in the first two albums - they're pretty damned awesome, too.

And having great taste means nothing if they turn out a terrible covers album with that material. Lots of bands have great taste. Doesn't mean they're all great.

I was four or five when they came out.

I actually like the Spaghetti Incident, but I know most people hate it, which is why I phrased that the way I did. The covers aren't mindblowing or anything and they're all pretty faithful to the originals, but there's a couple I actually like better than the originals and they introduced me to some pretty great music when I was 11 or 12.

Maiden just doesn't do it for me for some reason. I certainly don't mind them and I own most of their 80s albums (Powerslave excluded, which many people consider their best) but I just don't "get it." They're enjoyable, but they've never struck me as anything more than slightly above-average.

Number of the Beast destroys anything GNR ever did.

And yet Piece of Mind is somehow really lame and silly. Those are the only two Maiden albums that I have or have really listened to much. I still might add Powerslave to the collection at some point.

But at least Iron Maiden has one album that I like. I can't say that for GNR. "Welcome to the Jungle" might be the only song of theirs I ever want to hear again.

up close, no. but from a distance they're both long-haired white dudes with loud guitars that sing lyrics that serve primarily to piss off Bible Belt parents and tipper gore

Also, for what it's worth: GNR had one MONSTER album and that's pretty much it. Two ok follow ups and one that shit the bed.

Maiden continues to put out good albums today. Their last one:

fucking rocks

that last Velvet Revolver...not so much.

So..overall

Just to let ye know what the facts is, Dalen was a married Obner, divorced, then shacked up with a MILF. & he's since gotten her pregnant. Can't recall if she's delivered, yet.

I don't usually defend Dalen -- in fact, I cannot remember one time where I have; maybe his love for hardcore gonzo porn? -- but I am nothing if not the "Obner librarian" (Squirrrgggle's verdict).

Anyway, Dalen is one of many married/cohabiting Obs. A (partial) list:

Pop_Todd, robotboy, dumpjack, Prince of Darkness, PoD's wife who will sometimes board, rparis74, Sen. LooGAR, Yail Bloor, Rick Derris, Squirrrgggle, KPH, Black Putin, Harry who did board here but doesn't given the recent plunge into laddishness (where merely it was a dip, before), FT, jagged, St. Patrick, huskerpunk, El Guapo, Charli_, timmyjoe42, cotton, Dreaded Marco, dhr_jehrico, bitterbuffalo, billzebub (if I recall correctly), & catswilleatyou. Plus, cats's brah dieselicious (does he still use that handle?) is frequently one-third of a threesome (not always the same three people).
