Well. Took a half day this morning to recover because I don't do weekday hangovers so well anymore.

2nd time seeing 'em and they did not disappoint once again. Despite what anyone thinks about Shane's singing (which sounded fine to me) the band are straight PLAYERS. They just sounded incredible. All of them. I'm always blown away by all the instruments they use on stage and how each one absolutley MAKES the song. I love Jem Finer. He's their utility man. Dude played a half dozen different things during the night. Mostly the banjo though. Shane was having to get oxygen off stage during the songs he wasn't singing.

I only saw one guy get really out of control and he got dragged out by his neck in a straight choke hold to the drunken cheers of everyone around. No idea what he did though. Of course, their music makes it almost impossible to listen to and NOT start pounding beers and joining in the revelry. The vibe is always so great. Very communal.

Got to meet TENTOZE THE ANIMAL STEELE who, like everyone I've met on here, is completely good people. Thanks for the beer man. Pretty sure I told you this last night (I think) but it's pretty cool you got to share that experience with your boys. Hope you guys found a decent watering hole post show.

All in all, you DC/Boston/NYC folks need to go see 'em if at all possible. You WILL have a good time. No way around it.

Here is the setlist and some pics (from the AJC):

Streams of Whiskey
If I Should Fall From Grace With God
Broad Majestic Shannon
Turkish Song of the Damned
A Pair of Brown Eyes
Repeal Of The Licensing Laws
Cotton Fields
Greenland Whale Fisheries
Sayonara
Tuesday Morning
Kitty
Sunny Side of the Street
Body of an American
Lullaby of London
Thousands are Sailing
Dirty Old Town
Bottle of Smoke
Sickbed of Cuchuliann

Encore 1:

Sally MacLennane
Rainy Night in Soho
Irish Rover

Encore 2:

Poor Paddy
Fiesta

We went back to "Irish" pub where we had grabbed food earlier. Took over the jukebox, had people up and dancing all over the pool room till about 2, when I told the kids I was fucking DONE. In the clear light of day, all I seem to have lost was my fucking ATM card. At least it wasn't a retina. Or a kidney. Was a bleary-eyed drive to the hospital this morning and then on up to Murphy. Good times.

If he actually WAS the opening act, I liked it quite a bit. Never heard any announcement naming the band (I was in the basement smoking yard when they started playing), was a 3 piece playing rockabilly-based stuff- tight band, the drummer was particularly good, I thought.

Thanks, I'll snag that when I turn on the laptop- on sister's computer right now.

ATL boys ought to find a bar that's suitably degenerate enough (as in, if were to be set afire, no one would be prosecuted) for a mass drunkening one of these days when I'm passing through the area, which seems to be happening regularly with my mom being in hospital there.

Fiesta seems an odd choice to close.

Why?

It's long been a live highlight with Spider usually banging a thin beer tray against his head into the microphone to make the whole scene even more ludicrous.

Fantastic drunken romp at the end of a fantastic drunken evening.
