So surfing the tube, and caught a couple acts from the 1983 US festival on Classics in Concert. I was 14 at the time, and remember it being a big deal, but aside from that, I dont remember too much.

Triumph comes on, in all their Canadian power trio glory, and there are a lot of pan shots of the crowd which is beyond huge. Lots of unsavory looking peeps, some goons, but mostly the shots are of bikini clad women. Now in 1983, cameramen probably thought, "damn, these are some wild hot chicks", but 26 years later! Wipeout! I started to think that I was completely jipped by growing up in the 1980's. At least on the babe meter.
The dancing of the women was horrendously robotic and sad. Of course it perfectly fit the times, I dont fault that, but man, why couldnt I be 20 years old now!

Anyone else feel this way? Do your highschool memories of pathetic Jordache Jeans, Coca-Cola rugby shirts and leg warmers leave you feeling as jilted?

Nope. I would have been a drug sucking scumbag in any decade.

But it woulda been awesome to ape that 80s rocker look with the huge hair and the tight jeans and the boots.

and/or shorty shorts and a puffy orange vest.

in a circa 84 Pontiac T-Top Life Ruiner.

J-Poppa I think you are underestimating the 80s. Anyone of those robotic and sad chicks would have taken on you and your whole squad for a couple lines chopped across 1984 or Born in the USA.

They've got us on this one hands down. Current cars are fucking lame in comparison. I drove ol' Dixie down in an '85 Buick LeSabre many a night.

I think I have seen 4 or 5 rehashings of fashion generations in the last 15 years. It all come 'round again.

Bah! You guys are no fun! Really, look for this show that gets played a lot on VH1 Classic. Sure there were some good things about the 80's, but they really dont compare to the mindset of today. Maybe I am delusional and not remembering the 80's with as much fondness. After all, it was a time of nerdy bliss.

To fully engage the crux of my argument, you gotta see these people dancing to Men at Work, and early early U2. This was the MTV Cancun Spring Break of its era!

Hell even I had a 77 Olds' Cutlass white two door hardtop with a red bench seat, power for miles, and bumpers that worked, but that doesn't measure up. Even if it was nice to slide your lady next to you under your arm as you punched the throttle to White Snake and Kick Axe.

I'll tell you what is really different about women from the 80s...last time I dated vs. women of today...my post-divorce dating women way too young for me. Women raised on internet porn have vastly different standards of acceptable bedroom behavior. And that can indeed be a very good thing.

Yeah I can't get on board with where you're going here. The 80's were awesome.

Somewhere in the deep recesses of my brain I still hold the tight torn jeaned, bleach blonde, huge hair sprayed hair, party girl as some sort of epitome of hottness. Probably because when I was an awkward 12-13 year old that was the look all the older girls rocked. Something kinda trashy about the whole look which made it all the more irresistable.

BUT, also in that era , was the short haired winona ryder type girls with the Smiths button on their back pack which held an appeal as well.

Not sure exactly what standard you're thinking of in your head that makes our current times any better really.

Good looking is good looking. In any era.

Yeah, I call the body on any women seen on the screen during the 80s or on post-cards, in magazines photos etc. "80s body". Genius name, right?

We've become more image conscious since with the advent of the information age. With that it's become easier to access better-fitting and more revealing clothes, gyms, etc that are more appealing to our ever critical eye. Women have existed with aesthetically pleasing bodies since the dawn of time, but put high-wasted jeans and bikini/underwear bottoms on their hips, and they're going to look like they're from the 80s.
