I realize in this era of College Football, UGA can't afford for Mark Richt to win a title after 20yrs of coaching like Tom Osborne, especially with rival Florida on top right now and Alabama in the ascendancy, yet it would be absolutely foolish for the Dawgs to consider replacing a coach that has an 82-22 record. That could and most likely would cripple the UGA program worse than when Frank Solich was canned at Nebraska with a .750 win percentage.
No disrespect to Georgia, but Richt has probably brought that program to its pinnacle point. It's not like the Dawgs regularly won National Titles before his reign and three divisional titles/two conference titles this decade is pretty impressive.
I couldn't disagree with this more. Georgia's talent pool and nexus to other talent pools is as good as you can get save Tx, Ca, Fl, La. UGA's alumni base is also as good as it can get. It can have whatever facilities it needs. It's in the SEC. It's not hard to recruit to one of the best college campuses in Athens either. And Ga Tech is not much of rival for in-state talent. Traditionally, UGA has been a preeminent program. The only thing holding it back is a string of arguably underachieving coaches.
Moreover, the difference between Solich and Richt is light years. Richt has had plenty of time whereas Solich barely got a cup of coffee before he was shown the door. Also, Nebraska grossly overestimated it's place in a post-osborne, post-prop 48 football world.
Thank you sir. I was going to come in here and lose my shit but you said it best.
Also, I didn't say that people wanted to replace Richt. I am merely hinting at the fact that people are starting to lose confidence after seeing the same frustrating inconsistencies keep popping up in the last 3 years. No one in their right mind is ready to cut bait and if you are then you are just part of the lunatic fringe.
UGA has the talent pool, the facilities, the alumni base, and most importantly, the MONEY to do whatever to be an elite program.
Also, what does it take to win a Championship these days anyway?
The BCS has proven that most times it's a complete crap shoot. UGA has had two great teams this decade and both times the system decided that another equally deserving team should play for it and not us.
As Auburn has proven in the past, even going undefeated isn't a guarantee under this bullshit system.
All you can ask to be in the hunt to win your conference adn then hopefully the chips fall your way.
