Is New York City (You're A Woman) the place to begin? Or are there better choices? IS a compilation all I really need?.
I really love all his late 60s and early 70s albums.
New York City (You're A Woman) is probably my favourite Al Kooper album, and would highly recommend it. Then grab
Easy Does It and
I Stand Alone. I have all his albums so I can't recommend a compilation but as an album artist, I think you should stick to the long players. That being said, I believe I did a tenner actually.
I'd put "I Stand Alone" over "Easy Does It" and possibly on par with "New York City (You're A Woman)" but can't go wrong with most Al Kooper. The instrumental albums are my least favorite but they are good for what they are.
If you do want to go the greatest hits route, there is a double disc comp with one disc a best of and the other a comp of rarities. I'm a completist with Al Kooper and bought it for the rarities but it would also be a good introduction.
Surprising that nothing would come up in a search given what big fans Tentoze, Dumpjack and I are. I'd have thought my cd purchase thread would have come up if nothing else as I've bought almost all his albums over the last five years. Seeing him again in January. Can't Wait.
