Music - Check
Movies - Check
Books - Check
Internet - Check.

Your probably trying to say that GB aren't enough for you to accomplish this. However, it is for the majority of people. Most people carry their music collections on Nanos. Also, you know Apple will start increasing the GBs with the subsequent generations just like they've done with every other product that they have released.

Honestly, if I had the money right now to spend, I'd buy this.

None of Apple's products have ever been real innovations. Kph wrote that this is apple admission that they don't have new ideas for a tablet. They didn't have a new idea for the ipod either. By tweeking existing tech and making it more consumer friendly, they brought the ipod to the mainstream.

They reinvent the way the consumer uses products, which for the most part, already exist.

PCs have been about doing anything. Google has built on this notion by adding that advertisers should pay for it. Apple has always been limited and closed.

This arguing against the Ipad is really the same old anti-apple arguments that folks have been saying since forever.

i just dont see me ever buying an e reader. i like the idea of not having to buy physical copies of books and have them cluttering up the house, but i dont want to carry around yet another electronic device with me everywhere I go.

Same here. I mean, why do I need to carry something that holds 25 books on it when I'm just going to kill 2 beers and a handful of chapters of one book on a 2 hour flight.

Also, if someone is looking for a music solution you're still going to need an MP3 player. I mean you're not going to walk around with this thing for your music purposes right?

I still think it's a cool gadget that, if I had the expendable income to just blow, I'd probably get. But, the whole concept just seems superfluous.

It's "closed computing"? Welcome to the world of Apple computers. Their approach to maintaining stability and quality has always been through imposing varying degrees of control.

While this has always been the Apple way, it's starting to look disingenous.

I find it hard to believe that file transfer between network shares, USB devices or memory cards couldn't be secure. I think this is more about forcing users into using the Itunes store than protecting them from system corruption.

Not supporting Flash (and also Java, I've heard) is a huge mistake, and again there is a case for greed here. Take a flash-powered site such as [adult swim] for example. There is a huge amount of free media available directly from the site that Ipad users will not be able to access, though they can purchase adult swim media from the Itunes store.

A camera would have been nice for video chat, but they probably wouldn't have been able to cut such a good deal with AT&T if they included internet voice/video chat in the device.

There is a lot of potential for this device, and there will surely be killer apps for it (once someone designs a bluetooth IR blaster, this could be the best universal remote ever), but a lot of the potential has been wasted through an overly closed design.

Maybe Ipad 2.0 will address some of the designed-in limitations, but I doubt it. Apple's design department (and now, marketing too) seems to be getting more myopic. Consumers have begging for less restrictive file formats on the Ipod for years, but Apple has ignored them. I don't think anyone will get this right on a Windows platform, but Google might pose a challenge in a few years if Andriod succeeds.

Guys, it's called a library... you check out books, read them, and then turn them back in-- no clutter! ;)

As one of the iPhone's biggest fanboys it pains me to say this, but I strongly suspect Apple intentionally withholds certain functionality at product launch, so it can release said functionality piecemeal with each subsequent version of the product and force people to re-buy to get the latest and greatest. Shrewd? Absolutely! Despicably heinous? Without question.

Of course, I'm pretty sure I'm stating the obvious. So, what else is new?

i'm sure it's in the works.

"open" doesn't always equal good or even useful to a great majority of the computing world (not you, of course)

Are you suggesting Android is too complicated for people to use? I would agree that it is new to a lot of people, but once people use it for an hour realize how simple it can be. 1/10th as many apps doesn't mean much. I am amazed at the number of iPhone apps that people have forced me to "check out" because they are "cool" but in reality are pretty idiotic. (beer drinking simulators, gun simulators, fart noise makers...) Just a year ago, Apple only had 25,000 apps after being on the market for 2 years, where Android has been out 15 months and has 20,000.

Wait...did you just say that a MacBook running VMWare fusion to run Windows applications is less confusing than Android?

Dalen, I wouldn't bet on Apple letting Android get anywhere near one of their devices. I haven't heard of it on an iPhone, so I wouldn't expect it on a iPad. (chuckle)
I would think Android would be able to utilize the hardware inside better to make the device more powerful. No multi-tasking is pretty lame for 2010. It just doesn't make much sense to own one of these, if you need a phone/mp3 player and a home computer/laptop also.

FT, I'm sure you are right. They will withhold functionality so they can release the newer product in the future to get people's money again. This is another reason Apple sucks. Make the devices upgradable.

I can't believe they let you out of sixth grade, let alone college. Seriously dude, at some point it stops being funny and just starts being sad and ridiculous: You quite simply can not read things and then comprehend them.

I have to think that Google with their eye on the Chrome OS rollout did backflips yesterday afternoon.

Drinky - every one of these unveilings has at least shown where Apple does it better than existing products. Even the Air kinda rocked because of its form factor and weight, just, who cares. What does the iPad do that you can't already do with a laptop + phone? Who even wants to use this as a secondary "computing" device, esp. if you're locked down? I get it, they want appliances, not PCs, they want iTunes/iPod-like control over the desktop. I just don't think users want that. I know I sure as shit don't.

You're really surprised that this cost about the same as the iPhone when the iPhone launched? I think the iPhone retailed at something like $599 originally, and people still stood in line for it. And it had plenty of naysayers, etc.

Yeah but the iPhone was a UI breakthrough *plus* it improved, dramatically, on existing, ubiq. smartphones. What does this do? $650 to read the NYT for free and put up with ATT? Dunno...

Sorry, I'll break it down for your pea brain. You said if it had Android on it "nobody would know how to fucking use the thing" but then you said you "use a MacBook but also have to use VMWare fusion because I still like to run a bunch of Windows shit." You basically said you were too dumb to use Android but you can use a Mac and Windows. That's right...I'm lumping you in as a "nobody".

It's fairly clear that "1/10 as many apps" is referring to Android and "nobody would know how to use the fucking thing" is referring to Linux.

And for the record, running VMWare is incredibly easy.
