Just watched Meet the Press. Sestak's "attack" ad is brilliant. Specter changed parties only to ensure being re-elected. He's a life-long politician and to me that means he's a piece of shit (apologies to the cancer survivor Gestapo).

the ad is fairly brilliant, and becomes more and more hilarious the more you hear it (and if you watch sports you hear it about a million times.)

but surprise surprise, if you hear the full quote it's not really all that bad of a quote. and i don't care about a great ad, I want to know if having a guy like him with his seniority is good for my state, or bad for the country.

Sestak won't get elected. Spector still could. Letting Repubs win the seat would be a likely result... but having said that, I'd vote for Sestak on principle and hope for a miracle in the general.

See that would make me want to vote for him. I dig a pragmatist.

But I personally think Arlen is an old fool with a checkered history (especially his work on the Judiciary) so I'd vote Slestak and as Acid Grandfather said, pray for a miracle in the general.

monty had a thread on this last week. Neither wins the general, but Sle-Stak polls better against Toomey.

Specter loses liberals and ALL Repubs, Slestak has a chance at moderate Rs and Is cos he dat AGMIRALG

(and made my point about the military providing universal healthcare in an ad)

This is an unpopular thing to point out to a lot of people.

Including my dad, who went all Walter-in-Big-Lebowski about his buddie dying face down in the dirt for their healthcare, etc.

Although they may have a point about Gov't run HC, because I know not a few doctors who think the VA would be vastly improved by privatization and an injection of MD talent.

That whole 50% of doctors being in the bottom of their class thing, etc.

You'll never convince me that a for-profit receiving all it's money from taxpayer monies is going to a better job than simply letting the government administer it (even as bloated and wasteful as that administration most certainly is).

Like, if we created The Loogenbloor Group that sold medical services to the VA, we would have zero motivation to create a better or more efficient product--our motivation would be solely in keeping the faucet of free money turned on and flowing into our pockets.

These guys advocate a sort of hybrid, ala vouchers/savigs accounts where vets can shop for care.

I don't know that there is an answer. To anything. It's all greedheads and simps, the "right people" ripping off everyone else, etc.

And when you peak behind the curtain, it's even worse.

What percentage of Vets are 100% on VA HC? I'm not expecting you to know, but my curiosity has been piqued.

Confirm all of this.

What we need in this country is an anthropologist.

C.f. BO's April, 2008 speech about fear motivating Penn middle class clinging to guns and bibles. Nope, social anthropology will never play in america.

He said that because we had a txt convo in which I was being forced to listen to South Alabama terrestrial radio, and to entertain myself was listening to Glen Beck. Apparently Barry is an anthropologist from a Muslim-sympathetic worldview that likes to study America, but feels no passion for the American Way of Life.

And I've spent the last 24+ hours laughing about it.
