Does anyone here have an 80GB video classic? I want to ask you if yours is doing something mine does; not sure if it is normal.
yes
what's the tick?
edit: shit, just looked and it's a 30gig. ...Huh.
Actually, that shouldn't matter. If it's a 30gig I would assume it was manufactured around the same time as mine, or maybe it's even a little older.
1)When you start yours up after it's been "asleep" - does the hard drive make one or two loud "clicking" sounds? Not like a normal spin and shuffle like you expect to hear from any hard drive being accessed - but more like a "click"?
2) If you put your ear up to the back of it and listen as the hard drive is spinning (i.e. after you select a new song from a different album or playlist, and it switches to the new item) how loud is the hard drive? Mine has a chronic buzz and whine that my other two iPods (Shuffle and Touch) don't have.
The reason I am asking, and being so nitpicky is this: I recently took my iPod in for repair because the HD was clicking loudly / repititively and freezing, then one day everything just disappeared off of it and I couldn't access it with iTunes anymore. I got it back from Futureshop with an invoice saying the Hard Drive and Battery had been replaced. I'm a little paranoid that something is amiss here because even though I can access it with iTunes now, and it is functioning properly - the HD sounds pretty much just like it did before it went completely kaput on me. The only difference is that - so far -there have been no repetitive clicks and freezing.
My warranty expires at the end of June. I'm wondering if the techs who repair these things for Futureshop just got it working with some cajoling and didn't replace the HD at all, just thinking it would work long enough for me to be off warranty, or at least cause enough additional back and forth and delays so that my warranty will expire in the process, or I might just say fuck it all together and buy a new one or something.
What do you think?
