I am just now starting to recover from exhaustion and general lack of sleep. We drove through the night Wednesday and got to Bonnaroo at about 4:30am Thursday morning. Got our tent compound set up by 9am and got about an hour's nap. Trucked it through the rest of the day but had to leave Blitzen Trapper early because I just needed some rest.
Friday was the busiest day for me. I love The National, but was a little wary of an outdoor set for them. I was pleasantly surprised when it seemed to work out really well for them and they were really pretty engaging. I was also pretty drunk. Went back to camp and kept drinking before Kings of Leon. Only sorta remember that, but kind of annoyed our tent neighbors (some cool girls from Salt Lake City who hung out at our compound most of the weekend) with my drunken singing. I then lost my group and wandered over to Flaming Lips. I actually passed out watching the Flaming Lips set but woke up for DSOTM, which was really cool. Left early to get to LCD Soundsystem, which was the show of the festival for me. But way way too short (a 1.5 hr set). I feel like they could have played for at least another hour, but there were some technical difficulties and James Murphy got a little sick of getting hit with glow sticks. Still, a high energy set that was just ridiculously awesome. Afterwards we wandered over to the Lunar Stage and danced until about 5:30 and stayed up until past 6am that night. Slept for only a couple of hours until it got too hot.
Watched the USA/England game Saturday with a huge crowd at the Lunar stage and then headed back to camp to rest up. Caught the end of the Avett Brothers, stayed for a little of Weezer before heading over to Stevie. Watched a bit of his set, but was passed out for a good bit of it. My one regret was not sticking around for Jay-Z, just figuring I could hear it from my tent (which I could). However, I was so exhausted that I only heard a few songs before passing out, again from exhaustion.
Sunday was spent waiting in line starting at 9:30 to see Aziz's 1:30 comedy show, which was really really funny. While we were waiting we caught some of Japandroids at the adjacent tent. Went back to the camp, finished the rest of our beer and liquor before Phoenix. Also, drunkenly broke down our camp. I only sorta remember Phoenix, and then we left afterwards, driving through the night with only a stop at a Steak and Shake somewhere on the way towards Atlanta. We got back to Charlotte around 5:30am and I slept a few hours before I helped get the stuff out of my friends SUV since he needed to leave.
Great great festival, but I might be getting too old for this shit.
