Anyone following this big reveal?

Aside from showing a lot of things most people following this story don't already know, one of the more fascinating things here is the how. Document dump to wikileaks begets NYTimes article, but there's no Sy Hersch or an obvious Dan Ellsburg here.

It's interesting that this stuff is finally public, and I'm sure many people didn't realize this had been going on. It only confirms what I had always assumed about the ISI.

Shit is gonna get ugly.

So much information just vomited out there and a lot of it is bad news. Should lower public opinion for this ill-advised campaign even further.

Also, I can't decide yet if the responsible parties are wanting this to make Obama look bad (for perceived handling of military thus far) or if their agenda is to enlighten the public to what's really happening so as to hopefully hasten our exit (which is looking highly unlikely).

I don't think it has that much to do with Obama, except for the fact that the Wiki people probably believe he is more likely to address the war crimes charges in a positive manner and not to wholly discredit these papers like the Bush Administration would have attempted to do.
If there is actual political motivation, it would be to insure that the Neo-Con folks of the Dubya years could no longer discredit Obama foreign policy and possibly taint some GOP candidates during this election cycle, which is not likely to work.
More or less, I think it is basically your latter point, and that these folks want to light a fire under the public's ass to encourage our elected leaders to develop an exit strategy or at least revise our strategy in this so called "War on Terror".

I think it is a left of center push against Obama to get us out as he promised to do on the campaign trail.

Heard about it on the way to work via NPR's "On Point".

I'll try to follow the shitstorm that comes out of this, but with 90,000 occasionally censored docs out there, a lot of stuff may never make it to the surface.

Wikileaks.org must be getting hammered because I can't get the page to load.

Can anyone believe that this war makes any sense at this point? I'm still mystified that we are in this mess and iraq almost 10 years later. America has gone way off the rails with respect to its military decisions.

I don't think it's really that surprising that we're still in either place given that we started what are - in the long run - unwinnable wars in both places.

It's just shocking how strong the inertia and war hawking STILL is... in light of the CLEAR futility of both "wars". At least Cameron called it like it is on iraq... an illegal war.
