Yeah, I know he hardly comes around anymore, but I also know that practically everyone still here knows who I speak of. At any rate, his band, Bon Savants, released a record a few years ago that landed easily in my top 10. Out of curiosity I visited the old website of the band that I thought was now defunct. Apparently not. Visit www.bonsavants.com and there is a video posted of a new song there. Pure pop goodness to these ears. So I inboxed him on facebook and it turns out that they have an entire album in the can, but they don't know if/when it will be released. The singer, Thom, is on the west coast pursuing another degree, and other band members also seem to be pursuing various personal interests. Very Wrens-esque if you ask me. I just thought I'd drop a semi-plug here because the song is really infectious and needs to be heard, imo.

Haven't seen him in a few years but I still know folks that have.

That "new" song is actually a few years old.

He came out here, intending to stay I think, for a few months late last year so I saw him then. And I've seen Thom a bit too. They played a show together that I went to as well.

This page has some recordings of them playing at the WFNX studios a couple of years ago: http://bonsavants.com/watch/

Hey obners. Hey bort. Hey sis KG(G). Hey nemesis. Thanks for the shout-out about the new stuff! I like the second album we did quite a lot and hope it sees some kind of release. We spent a while writing and recording it, Dave Carswell and John Collins mixed, and we were primed to start touring before life priorities kicked in the door.

Yep, the past year was full of travel for me. I lived with Thom in Berkeley pretty much all of last football season. After a job I had lined up fell through at the last minute, I scurried "home" to NY, and started classes at a local college a few days before the Super Bowl. I'm in Victor, of which I can say that it has a mall. At least that's what the locals seem to say. I don't want to be here any longer than I have to and would happily return to the Bay Area tomorrow. Or anywhere really. Well, not Ohio. In the meantime, I just finished EMT training a few days ago and will begin riding next month while doing clinical shadowing at an ER and all kinds of fun schoolio. I may qualify for food stamps, but I'm in a much better place than I was a year ago. Even if Wakefield is still in the starting rotation. F'n short games.

Bon Savants are on a hiatus, as they say. Thom's in school for the inevitable future, I'm in the same boat pending the next year or 2 of successful prereq study, and the other 3 have various commitments in the northeast. If Thom starts his field research anywhere based out of the northeast, I'm sure he and I'll get something together, as is our custom. We've had several offers for shows and short tours in the meantime, but schedules are tight and whatnot. The drummer and keyboardist are in another band, which they were helping with before the Savants had to stand down. They do a lot of shows in NYC and the region. Check 'em out at: http://mysteryroar.bandcamp.com/album/overboard They're not at all like the Savants, but I think they're pretty catchy, not to mention rhythmically compelling live.

I've spent the past 7 days in an enormous amount of pain and am currently zonked out on vicodin. I was in a good cycling accident 2 years ago, snapped a fibula, busted a lateral incisor, and so on. Part of the expected treatment for replacing the tooth was an eventual root canal and that just came a'callin a week ago. I get the work done early Monday morning! Woo.

OK, that's probably 95% more info than anyone wanted. I blame the vicodin. Hope you all are well.

Sounds good to me. I'm mostly taking evening shifts when possible (lots more entertaining for me, better for my schedule), so I doubt I'll be going to many shows, but if something comes up, I can certainly plan for it. On that note, where do people go for shows here? Do many acts even stop here? Kinda lame to ask that, as Rochester's actually quite populated, has a few undergrad institutions, Syracuse obviously has SU, and so on. I think the only upstate show I've ever been to was in Albany a decade ago (Weezer at Suny-Albany with Get Up Kids opening!), but I almost went to see the NPs at C-MAC last summer before leaving for California. I forget who they were opening for exactly...MMJ maybe?

Anyhow. My single social outlet has been a karaoke night at some townie bar on Saturdays when I'm free. It was humorous the first few times, but quickly became sad. The dj has a great selection though, even Pulp and Blur, which goes over about as well as you'd expect.

I wonder if I start an Ole OPA thread, that swarthy bastard would come out of the shadows and start posting again.
