And it's in the killing indie thread?

I'm sorta shocked, as this seems to be right in a bunch of people's wheelhouses' to either love or really, really hate.

I can only say that I get the gimick, but it doesn't really work for me. And, I FUH.

Anyway, I was reading This round up pants-shitting love/ OMG I HATE THAT CUNT articles from across the internet failverse and was kind of surprised that there's not much chatter here - a veritable cornucopia of internet failing.

I don't think she's anything all that special, but I'll admit to loving Video Games.

I've heard the song but had no idea that's what she looked like, so I could actually separate out the image from the music. If I didn't know the name of the artist I would have laid down some money that it was Nicole Atkins.

Had read the expose of Lana del "Lizzie Grant" a few months ago, but didn't think much of her after, since rare is the pop musician who emerges fully constructed on the first take. (Even the Sex Pistols & Backstreet Boys had to earn their keep.) Now, I pored over the links at LooGAR's linked article, to get a bit fuller an understanding of successfully constructed Lana, &... I still don't have much to say of her. Both "Blue Jeans" & "Video Games" strike me as evocative of Tragic Kingdom-era Gwen Stefani, with hints of Jewel on the first & Cat Power (c. The Greatest) on the second. Meanwhile, the iconography seems direct from Killers sophomore disc Sam's Town, with a soupçon of later-period Sofia Coppola (Somewhere) if only for the repeated shots of the Chateau Marmont sign, which is of course an LA not Vegas landmark. All told then this is unobjectionable coffeeshop pop -- I didn't hear it right away, but the Rolling Stone reviewer's comparison to Dido with a dirtier mouth fits (& makes Lana pretty much a burlesque ready version of EMA) -- that will grace us for a season or two, then be gone away.

RIYL: alt-porn (BurningAngel, SuicideGirls), half-caf soy lattes, the idea of roller-derby, Jewel's Pieces of Me, Mandy Moore's Coverage.

As for me, you'll find me upstairs masturbating -- while listening to Ke$a, & Rebecca Black's "Friday".

She's The Gangster Nancy Sinatra -- and for reasons I don't need to explain here, if I could tag posters in a thread, I would have certainly tagged you, shiv and dov.

Which, given what we know of Frank's origins as a pop standout, plus Nancy's relationship with Lee Hazelwood, makes Lana into Nancy Sinatra. So, I can look forward to LDR naked in Playboy in about the year 2040.

Which, in today's superfastmonoculture means she'll be shitting dicks on film by 2013?

Lana del Ray sextape with the lead singer of Gym Class Heroes -- & Katy Perry ex -- Trav Mc Coy has already been shot, so, yes.

Yeah, when I first heard her, I thought that she sounded like Tori Amos crossed with Nicole Atkins (especially on "Blue Jeans").

I was boning up on Gawker & saw one of the writers had written up a post on Lizzie's handlers's continuing failure to take back the reins from the Internet/hipster backlash machine. Included was a covershot for COMPLEX, & let me say, "Lana, baby, be my Morton Salt Girl".

So, is she basically the first indie/hipster manufactured pop star?

Other than that, I don't see anything particularly interesting.

Ever hear of a little band called the Strokes?

& I suppose Lana-Lizzie's tortured back-story -- tortured in that to separate fact from fiction is difficult, even for her -- compares to the relationship twists of brother/sister, husband/wife, ex-spouses Jack "Gillis" White & Meg White.

& Lana-Lizzie's high-school years in boarding-school? Uh, anyone ever hear of a fellow, name of Win Butler?

Monty, there's not a single parenthesis in that post. Quit.

I'm not afraid to admit she's brilliant. Video Games, Blue Jeans, and Races are great songs.
