Can't comment on the Nook. I did a side-by-side comparison with the Kindle, and liked the Kindle's functions and readability better. Once again, can't comment on Fire, since haven't even seen one in person.

FemDerris has become obsessed with hers. She got it as a work gift at an event last year.

She's been reading that "Girl Who Played with The Dragon Fire Tattoo" or whatever series.

She loves it.

You got to hand it to the marketing types.

To convince people to pay £120 for a book cover that's much less durable, hard wearing and less conveniently sized than the average paper back and which also requires battery power is pretty neat.

Or maybe people really are that STUPID.

At this point the societal technology fetish is so utterly risible that next big thing will probably be the iEye. A flat LCD touch screen next generation tablet which if you peer into shows you exactly what you would see if you didn't have one. Queue up morons! £400 each!

By the way did you see the newspaper article that claimed Kindle users basically read nothing but absolute tat? Sounds about right...

My complaint was not battery life but the requirement of a battery. They could double the battery life and I'd still have the same issue. And sure, it's not an issue for people who plan ahead and keep things well-charged but that's not me. I'm a last minute packer for trips. I live with the need to keep a laptop or ipod or phone charged but that's because I have to, there aren't non-battery powered substitutes (at least not good ones).

Yea...the ability to carry multiple books, magazines, and documents around at once in an electronic device is pretty stupid. Just like those portable music machines for the greedy idiots that want to carry around their entire music collection.

The battery life on the regular readers is pretty great. If you can't think to charge your device once every 2 months, you might have a bigger problem lurking.

I'd argue that the strong battery life would make people more likely not to check whether a battery needs recharging. Whereas the short battery life on a cellphone or laptop would make you more likely to check it.

I'm not arguing against anyone else getting one. Just saying, I don't need a book whose batteries might go dead or might malfunction in some other way when there is a perfectly fine book made of paper and ink that will serve my needs equally well or more to the point better.

You are kidding, right? The free books are weak. They are all shit that I was forced to read in school.

The English major in me is appalled.

I am going back and reading a bunch of classics that I never was forced to read in school. Figure that they're "classics" for a reason. Reading 'em, I am finding this to be very true.

Loving my new Nook...Got that N2A card thingee that allows it to act as an android as well..best of both worlds...

hitting the same road block with books though....
all books via amazon/B&N seemed to have the price point of around $9.99 or so...
Amazon has almost every book Im looking for 3-4 bux or less....even with shipping , its a better deal, and i have a real copy of the book...
whats the incentive to buy a digital book (outside of, it is the legal, moral, and right thing to do) as opposed to torrenting or downloading it?
