Ducks would beat K State by 40
I don't buy that for one second, and normally I criticize a quality Bill Snyder coached team for feasting on cupcake teams early and choking against a ranked opponent in a highly publicized game by this point in the season.
West Virginia has an offense that as just as potent as the Ducks, and Kansas State managed to handle them rather easily,
Oklahoma has comparable speed and talent as Oregon, and Kansas State beat them too.
I still won't root for the Mildcats, but I think they could contend with any team ranked in the top ten and go at least .500 in those games at a neutral site.
With that said, I wouldn't put any money on them in a BCS title game against SEC opponent and would expect them to be a two touchdown underdog.
And herein lies the problem with the Pac-12 scheduling their feature game at 7:30 PM PST - They are CLEARLY at LEAST the 2nd ranked team to the eyeball test to anyone who has seen them play this year, the problem there lying with the Computers used in the BCS, which don't have any eyes, and the vast majority of people on the Eastern and Central time zones who have already closed their eyes and turned off their TVs and gone to bed.
The Ducks really haven't had a game where they have been challenged beyond about 2 minutes into the 3rd quarter this year. Sure they haven't played many great teams yet, but they have curb stomped ALL of them - Every game they have played in the Pac 12 this year that was supposed to be a big challenge for the WASN'T. They beat a Arizona team 49-0 (that had just beat Oklahoma State 59-38 and has played a lot of the other teams in conference closely). To my knowledge the starters haven't played into the 4th quarter yet this year. They have outscored their opponents in the first half, 234-56. They were ahead of Arkansas State 50-3 at 12:50 in the second quarter(an Arkansas State team that won their conference last year and played in a bowl game).
And for people who haven't been paying attention over the last few years, Rodney is a Beaver and almost never has anything good to say for the Ducks - I can't imagine his comment above was easy for him to make, especially since his Beavers are still undefeated themselves.
And finally, the most INFURIATING PART of Kansas State passing the Ducks in the polling......Kansas State pulled out of a scheduled Home and Home with the Ducks this year....this hurting the Ducks strength of schedule. We would have already known how bad the Ducks would have curbed stomped them because that game would have already been played and we wouldn't have had to speculate.
FWIW, Patrick, I worked for a company that had an office in Manhattan, KS and once spent a month working there - So I follow Kansas State a bit more closely than your average fan - Yes, they beat a perennially over-ranked Oklahoma team, but they aren't even in the same hemisphere as the Ducks are this season.
